[Please, please, take a minute to fill this out. A reliable survey
of hardware that does and doesn't work under Linux would greatly
reduce traffic to the effect of "Will such-and-such board word under
Linux"? Because in many cases it's impossible to tell if it works
until someone tries it, this would really help the community if you
could take just a minute and fill out the survey. Even if you have
a completely run-of-the-mill, no-frills system... please, fill it
out. All you have to do is fill in the blanks after each question.
Thanks. --mdw]

In trying to reduce the traffic in the c.o.l.* groups, it was
mentioned that a updated Hardware Compatability Sheet would probably
help, that way instead of asking the group "Does a tape drive
made by foo with a SCSI card made by bar work under Linux", one
can look in the sheet. I am willing to put together that sheet
if you are willing to answer the questions in this survey.

Hardware Survey:

This survey will be broken down into two sections, Desktops
and Notebooks. Each section will have several sub-sections
that specify individual configurations. Also, there is a
sub-section for those people (like me :) who bought there
PC in a big box and just plugged it in. However, if you
know the specifics, please fill them out. In addition,
there is a sub-section for each section on what *doesn't*
work, as that is probably as improtant as what does work.

This will probably replace the Hardware Compatability HOWTO,
as it hasn't been updated since Aug, 93; and I e-mailed Ed
but didn't hear anything back from him.

Please follow the format exactly as it is given here. Any
reply that does not follow this form exactly will be sent
  back to the sender.

Every item has room for comments. Please feel free to give
any comments (including how you got it to work :). At the
end of your comments, please put an empty line with two
periods at the begining of it (no white space before the
  periods).

Each item has a flag for hardware that is supported only in
ALPHA (ALPHA software or kernel patches). If your hardware
is only supported under ALPHA software, *please* mark this
(no mark is assumed to be 'N').

Queries with a [A1/A2/...] mean respond only with A1 or A2
or ... You need only respond with enough characters to make
the reply distinct from any of the other replies.

Queries with a (A1, A2, etc) are just possible options, but
you can fill in the blank any way you like.

If you want to leave any comments for me in this survey (not
to be included in the final document), place a '#' at the
  beginning of the line.

Finally, if you think of a way this survey could be improved,
  let me know!
