I have uploaded a corrected version for the PPP software used by Linux
to sunsite.unc.edu. It is presently in the /pub/Linux/Incoming
directory and should be found either there or in its more permanent
home of /pub/Linux/system/Networking/Serial.

The file is called ppp-2.1.2b.tar.gz and the corresponding lsm entry.

This is a primarily a MAINTENANCE RELEASE. If you currently have the
package working then you do not need this file. If you are getting the
PPP package for the first time, then please choose this in preference
to the 2.1.2a version currently available.

1. Chat was modified to use the parent pid rather than its own.

2. The ppp-on and ppp-off scripts were rewritten to take advantage of
   the proper pid.

3. The lcp-echo logic was revised to not send junk characters
following the echo data. This should work with the proper RFC
   specification and Netblazers.

4. The echo failure logic was corrected to properly terminate the
program when the remote system no longer does do the echo responses.

5. The various ioctls used to start the pppd process now have the
   proper parameters.

6. The proxy ARP entry code to obtain the hardware address should work
with the 1.0 as well as the 1.1 series kernels.

7. A FAQ of general problems was included.

8. The instructions were updated where appropriate for the
   installation of the code.

9. The current (1.1.52) version of the driver was used and configured
for the 1.0 series kernels. This should help people who attempt to
replace the code with the 'older' driver in the ppp package.

This is not the 2.2.0 code. This is a maintenance release because
there have been several problems and they are best solved by releasing
the fixed code.

If you presently have PPP working, there is no benefit to replacing
the code with this.

Under no circumstances, replace the alpha version in my prerelease
directory with this code. It will be a regression.
