After applying this patch, /proc/dev contains device entries which are
generated by the kernel for updating /dev using a script. This needs a
small change on how to register devices, so at the moment only patches
for hd.c and lp.c are included. The patch is relative to 1.1.50, but
probably works unchanged with the 1.1.4x kernels, too (untested). A
small README and a script to update /dev is included. You can get the
patch as GNU zipped tar file from:

   cantor.informatik.rwth-aachen.de:pub/linux/procdev.tz

Have fun,

Michael
