It seems presumptuous to expect things to hold still for us while
we fiddle with the buttons & dials on our camera. What's more
interesting to me than subjects tamed by the camera's self-conscious
gaze is how experiences register on our brains amid the chaos
of life in progress. Photography can be a way of redefining what
it is we're trying to seeof searching for what slips quietly
past while we otherwise would stand by, impatient for events to
work their way into the light of our preconceptions.
