I've got the NJSTAR20.ZIP, no problem pkunzip'ing it. From the demo version,
it looks great, and I asked Hongbo Ni for a PostScript sample printout -
it's not bad. The only thing lacking may be different fonts.

The demo is impressive enough and I've decided to register for it.
Try getting the ZIP file from wsmr-simtel20.army.mil (192.88.110.20)
under PD1:<MSDOS.EDITOR>. Check the file size, should be 834800.

NJstar use GB code internally. all the input methods use GB code. so your
friend is able to share with Mainland people.

The Chinese Name is: Nan2 (South) Ji2 (Pole) Xing (Star), that is where
NJStar come from.

Thanks .

Hi,

I've created the FanCang input tab for NJStar 2.0. The ZIP'ed file has been
uploaded to ahkcus.org and it shall rest in src/pc/NJSTAR finally.

FanCang is actually the FanTi version of CangJi input method (which is
included in the NJStar distribution). In other words, one encode a Chinese
character basing on the FanTi character, instead of the JianTi character
- the keyboard definitions etc are the same. This should benefit those who
use FanTi characters only.

Cheers!

Dear all,

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT YET CORROBORATED AS BEING CONNECTED WITH
   ANY CHINESE SOFTWARE AT ALL.

Recently I pulled back a version of NJSTAR from ahkcus.org. I have run
it quite happily on a PC AT we have here. Last thursday night when resetting
the date to temporarily avoid danger of losing files due to the Michaelangelo
virus, the date was set to the 7th May accidentally. On reboot, and running
the Norton editor, a little green worm began to move around the screen.
Whether the worm is part of the virus we found or one which we haven't been
able to find, I'm not sure.

We have done some research since and found that according to some virus
detection software we have available, it is thought to have come from the Far
East possibly Taiwan. As the NJSTAR executable is infected at present, I
thought I'd post this information here, to see if anyone can help me track down
where it may have come from.

The number assigned it is 1575 in our documentation
(belonging to ViruScan V74+/IBM Scan 2.00+). It is thought to be common, and
leads to .COM and .EXE growth and increased sluggishness of DIR commands. It
installs itself memory resident when the first program infected by it is
executed, in approx. 1800 bytes at the top of the system memory but beneath
the DOS boundary at 640K. It can be overwritten apparently, as the memory
is not reserved. COMMAND.COM gets infected at this point and Interrupt 21
gets hooked (I don't know what this means though!)

It seems that the virus does no more than replicate itself, but it updates
the file data and time of each file it infects to the current system date and
time. It infects one .COM and one .EXE file each time either COPY or DIR is
used. Infected files also show an increase of around 1580 bytes in size.

I don't wish to alarm or point fingers at anyone; I would be grateful if
people could tell me whether they have encountered this or other viruses on
the Chinese bulletin boards. It seems that the virus is activated on the
first May and switches off at the end of August.

Hi,

To print a page of Chinese text in wp51:

1, use njstar20 to convert gb file to pcx file, save the file as
   c:\chinese\try.pcx
2, in wp51:
   a), alt-F9
   b), figure
   c), create
   d), filename: c:\chinese\try.pcx
   e), size: 6" X 9"
   then print:
   shift-F7, page

The printing quality is not so superb, but by using this method you can
edit English text on a Chinese file.

Dear Netters,

I have uploaded following files to ahkcus.org:

<src/pc/NJSTAR/NJS210-[123].ZIP>

NJS210-1.ZIP NJSTAR v2.1 Chinese Word Processor (part 1/3)
NJS210-2.ZIP NJSTAR v2.1 Chinese Word Processor (part 2/3)
NJS210-3.ZIP NJSTAR v2.1 Chinese Word Processor (part 3/3)

New Features of NJSTAR V2.1 Chinese Word Processor:

(1) Add ZhuYin input as being used in Taiwan's Eten and others.
Add more Chinese input methods such as Wade-Giles and Yale,
Now NJSTAR supports total 20 Chinese Input methods.
(2) NJSTAR now requires as little as 270K RAM to run by keeping
     font on disk (Optional).
(3) English Menu item can be selected by pressing the hot key.
English Version is included for evaluation.
(4) Add printer driver for HP Deskjet (Plus / 500).
(5) Add command <GetCode> for displaying the input code of Chinese
character at the cursor. This command can be used to ask for
the pronunciation of character at the cursor in PinYin mode.
(6) User now can add/delete characters in PinYin dictionary.
(7) Simplified and un-simplified Chinese characters can be printed
on same page, this partially solve the problem of missing
     character in un-simplified font file.
(8) Auto Detection for the presence of Enhanced keyboard is added.
(9) All color combinations can be configured.
(10) Add support for Franch, German and Swedish-Danish keyboards.

Thanks for forwarding the b2g.zip file. I have 2 questions: 1) how do I
compile it? 2) Once it's compiled, is there any documentation? If not, how
do I use it?

Thanks much for any advice you can give.

Avron

PS: I like NJStar very much, and would like to obtain the registered version.
However, I am unable to contact (via e-mail) the US representative; I won't
send a check to someone who isn't there, so could you confirm for me the name
& address of the person in the US who is handling this?
Also, a suggestion: NJStar, as a standalone text editor, does work as a DOS
app under Windows 3.1 -- unlike any of the Big-5 systems like ETen, which only
work under Chinese Windows 3.0A. You might consider providing a .pif file and
working out the printing bug (the machine freezes when printing under Windows
and you press esc to stop printing). Maybe even an icon!?

The newest registeredc version of NJSTAR has a feature which enables it to
output any gb or zw file (and possibly big5, I haven't tried it yet) to
pinyin, yale and even cantonese. It outputs as horizontal text with
characters with out tones and with tones as a one character a line text. You
also need to edit for cases where one character has more than one possible
tone, i.e., the character in bank as hang2 vs. xing2 in bicycle.

I don't think the ftp'able versions have this new feature, but maybe Huijie
can let us know.

This is done by <OutCode> command in NJSTAR v2.1 plus (For Registered users)
It can output the Input code on top of each Chinese character for any input
methods in NJSTAR (Pinyin, ZhuYin, Telecode, WuBiZiXin, ...)

There is another related function <GetCode>. This function tells the input code
of Chinese character at cursor. In Pinyin input mode, this command can be used
to tell the pinyin of unknown Chinese character while reading an article.

We are currently adding a sound function with <GetCode>, In pinyin mode,
it will pronounce the sound of Chinese character. But it requires SoundBlaster
and 20MB hard disk to store the sound files.

Hongbo.

Dear NJSTAR Lovers,

Due to the existence of a electronic Japanese to English Dictionary
(EDICT), I have programmed NJStar Japanese version so that Japanese to
English lookup and English to Japanese lookup are available. A popup
windows will display all the entries found, and any entry can be
inserted into file by pressing ENTER or space bar. NJSTAR can lookup a
specified Japanese/Chinese word or lookup all the words which contains
a specified Japanese/Chinese character.

But there is no such dictionary for Chinese-English, so I am planning
to organise a group of people so that a non-copyright Dictionary can
be keyed in. This kind of dictionary is very useful for English people
to learn Chinese, and for Chinese people to learn English.

To accomplish this huge project, we need 50 people and each person
will need to key in 20 pages. Anyone who finish his assigned pages
will receive NJSTAR v3.0 for free when it is released in next few
months.

If you like to get a free copy of NJSTAR v3.0 and have a copy of Han
Ying Ci Dian ('A CHINESE-ENGLISH DICTIONARY' by English Dept. of
Beijing Foreign Languages Institute, publish by 'Shang1 Wu4 Yin4 Shu1
Guan3' 1980+ Beijing), Please contact me to get your assignment. If we
got enough people, we are sure that we can finish.

Thanks for your interests in NJSTAR!

The NJSTAR 3.0 has a Chinese<->English dictionary feature. As a viewer,
this feature is helpful for the reader who is poor in Chinese and who
therefore needs to check a dictionary frequently.

I should be grateful if someone could name me other Chinese systems which
have this feature. Thank you.
