Hi, Yuan Jiang:

An English/Chinese, German/Chinese dictionary engine with more than 14 MB
dictionay entries is to be finished in a couple of weeks. Because of the
work done by many people (and paid) it has to be a commercial one. My question
is, dear Mr. Yuan Jiang and other dear netters, what enviroment and what
user interface do YOU prefer:

[1]     stand-alone program under DOS for manuell input and look-up;
[2]     stand-alone program under w. Windows for " ";
[3] TSR program with an integrated CCDOS, for look-up from applications
        directly (using hot-key);
[4] Application under Chinese Windows for copy&paste?

Since I have to focus my work on one or maximal two items of above, I am
making a survey using this network. Please tell me your invaluable opinion!
(If you choose [4], please specify which C-Windows you are using.)

Please send your e-mail to

        ucc02au@sunmail.lrz-muenchen.de

Many thanks in advance!!!

Hu Bo

Dear friends,

Applaud for the guys in CSIE (dept of Comp Sci and Info Eng), National
Jiao Tong University in Taiwan. They made an English-Chinese dictionary
availabe for us.  You can

        telnet ccsun11.csie.nctu.edu.tw 1111

(The IP address is 140.113.209.5, and don't forget the 1111, the
port number.) You will be prompted with "word:". I tried
words like applaud, nostalgia, kitsch and it answered correctly.
So I think they have a fairly useful database. Wildcards * and ?
are acceptable in their usual meanings. Their pronunciation marks
are interesting too. Check with a few examples and you will learn
the symbols.

Within Taiwan, the connection usually takes three seconds. I don't
think it would be too slow for the world.

But, it is coded in Big-5 (sorry, for some guys).

By the way, this service is also accessible from their gopher server.

-Shann
