My Parents Back in China Listen To "the Voice of June 4th" --- Let's Give More Support To the 6.4 Radio (Letter from reader) =====================================================================(30 lines) >From: A Chinese Student in USA, Provided by "mr.yawei" WE SHOULD GIVE MORE SUPPORT TO THE 6.4 RADIO Dear editor: As a custom, I exchange letters with my parents almost once a week. There is always something make me sad or happy everytime I read their letter. And today when I got another letter, I felt strongly that I should let more people share this short information with me. In their letter, my parents talked about how they spent hours a day to listen the foreign broadcasts to know the events around the world. They can listen such radios as VOA, BBC, NHK... and so forth. Much to my surprise, I found "the Voice of 6.4" is also in the list. They know and also we all know that this radio is found by a few chinese students in Chicago. I do not know what are the attitudes of others towards the station. But I have doubted its feasibility from day one. I have seen their ads everywhere but never got a convincing news that it has reached China. That was the case untill today. I have never mentioned the radio to my parents so obviously they found it out totally by themselvs. My home is in the far corner of the Northeast, which means that the radio has effectively covered a large area of China. We all hope that we can do something for our motherland. Unfortunately at this time there are very little we could do. We all agree that to send the information into China is the most important thing. FDC has even sent a radio ship to the China coast with great risk. But here not far from everyone of us there already exist a radio which is working for the same goal. I personally know nothing about the operation details of the radio. But as long as it is on the air, let us support it! I will. I hope more people will too. ============================================================================== 2. Report of the Conference on Democratic Strategies for China =====================================================================(42 lines) By CND correspondent, York University of Canada, Apr 18, 1990 Provided by CND-Canada editor Chi Bo Passover, a time when Jewish people around the world gather with their families to remember the suffering of Jewish people in the past, to celebrate the freedom and to serve freedom wherever there is oppression. On the night of April 9th in Florida, the conference on Demo- cratic Strategies for China was opened in the celebration of Passover with a sincere Chinese friend David Phillip--the execu- tive director of U.S. congressional Human Rights Foundation who is of Jewish origin. The conference was sponsored by the Foundation For Human Rights and Democracy in China in cooperation with the U.S. Congressional Human Rights Foundation. Thirty two people representing twenty four major oversea Chinese pro-democracy organizations attended the conference. The conference focused itself on the discussion of how the over- seas Chinese pro-democratic organizations can effectively raise the fund so that abundant financial resources can be obtained to support the Chinese pro-democratic movement thus to promote the process of democratization and safeguard of human rights in main- land China. The representatives agreed on the principle of fund- ing priority of pro-democracy projects. The function, operation and structure of the Foundation For Human Rights in China, which was established last November, were dis- cussed and eight board of directors ( Liu Binyan, Chai Ling, Guan Weiyan, Fang Lizhi, Han Lianchao, Xiang Xiaoji, Shi Tuhua and Gong Xiaoxia ) were nominated to the existing board of directors ( Yan Jiaji, Wan Rennan, Chen Yizhi, Wuer Kaixi, Li Lu, Hu Ping and Liu Yongchuan ). The two day conference concluded with a solution to certain common concerned issues in an open frank atmo- sphere. FCSSC vice-chairman, Xu Zhequn and PFH( Canada ) chief-editor, Ho Pin attended the conference and proposed their projects for fund- ing. ============================================================================ 3.
