1. The Voice of June 4th Radio Station: Time and Frequency Table

** Editor's note: We have received several requests from CND readers for
the time and frequency table of the Voice of June 4th,
they want to send the table to their relatives back in
China. Here is the table and you don't need to mention
the name of the radio station when you send it back, just
remind your friends/relatives of tuning to the right
                  frequencies at the right time.

In response to rfc@briar.philips.com (Robert Casey)'s request for informa-
tion about broadcasts by The Voice of Democracy - the name of the medium
wave clandestine expected to be on the air soon, if not already, with
programming to be beamed to China from a ship called The Goddess of
Democracy, the following appears in the current issue of Gerry Dexter's
"Clandestine Confidential."

"The ship... is supposed to have a 'high power' medium wave transmitter
on board. The signal will be aired via a series of relay stations,
though it's unclear whether these will be medium wave, shortwave or even FM.
Broadcasts are to include news, rock, messages from Chinese exiles and
telephone call-in shows.

The effort is being sponsored by the Federation for Democracy in China."

Programming information is available for transmissions by The Voice of June
Fourth, which is apparently on the air via the facilities of the Broadcasting
Corporation of China (Taiwan government). Reportedly:

Announcement: Please read this announcement, and return the attached sign-up
sheets to show your support. Thank you!
                       "The World Is Still Watching"
Protest Vigil for China's Political Prisoners
WHERE: San Francisco Chinese Consulate
WHEN: Friday May 11th 5:00 p.m. - Saturday May 12th 9:00 p.m.
WHY: To protest the imprisonment of two young Chinese
students and a Chinese journalist, all accused of
"counter revolutionary activisties" - a crime that
carries a long prison term or the death sentence.
       Their stories accompany this announcement.
WHAT: Speakers will voice support (English) on Sat. 5/12.
Participants will chant, hold candles, and take part
       in a congressional letter-writing campaign.
BRING: Participants staying overnight should bring warm clothes.
Port-a-potties will be on site. Participants should
       make their own food/water arrangements.

China's pro democracy movement in the United States desperately
seeks the support of the American public in drawing attention to
the imprisonment of two Chinese students and a Chinese journalist.
All have been charged as counter revolutionaries - a crime which carries
a long prison term or the death sentence.

When Poland's Solidarity movement was persecuted by the Polish government,
the U.S. imposed trade sanctions. At one point our government covertly
aided the anti-communist Nicaraguan Contras. Yet this administration
looks the other way as China executes its non-violent pro democracy
activists. It's up to the American public to change this double standard.

Please help us show the Chinese government that American has not forgotten.
American pressure and the threat of revoking China's Most Favored Nation
status could force the Chinese govenment to be lenient with those
imprisoned.

In the schedule below, pelase mark the hours during which you would be available
to join us for the above stated Vigil. If you will be participating in the
vigil during the evening (6 pm - 7 am) please bring flashlights, blankets and
water/food for yourself.

                    Report on the Direct Dialogue
with the Education Consul in Toronto
Regarding the `New Regulation' for Overseas Study
            -------------------------------------------------

On Thursday afternoon, April.12, three representatives (Hua
Xinmin from York University, Chang Cheng and T. Qu from McMaster
University) were sent by FCSSC headquarters to meet the Education
Consul Mr. Liu Dianqiou at Toronto General Consulate. They first
handed in the open letter which Chinese Students and Scholars
Association in 20 Canadian Universities and one institute have
signed. Then, a detailed discussion on the irrational part of the
"new" regulation was carried out. After the discussion, Mr. Liu
promised to bring our letter and our concerns back to China. (He
is in Beijing right now enjoying his vocation.) We hope our
effort on this issue could help our brothers and sisters in
China.

After this, Mr. Liu started to ask something he is mostly
interested in. Both sides exchanged ideas about the FCSSC and
its leadership. As a state officer, Mr. Liu also expressed some
point of view of the government which caused an intensive argu-
ment. The representatives from FCSSC personally expressed the
understanding of the situation that Mr. Liu has. Both sides
agreed that the dialogue is helpful for exchanging ideas.
Although, it is obviously that there are fundamental differences
in many ideological aspects for the known reasons. The whole
talk started with a little tension and ended with a little ease.

This is the first time that the FCSSC formally contacted a
representative from the Chinese government. To carry out real
goals, we need and should build channels to send our influence
back to China. We will never forget Tiananmen massacre and will
never forget those who sacrificed for China's democracy. We
will continue to protest the brutal behaviors of the current
regime openly and loudly. Public protests and direct dialogues
are the two things which we overseas students can do to help the
people inside China.

Our effort has been supported by the following Universities:
