                                July 5, 1990

progresses of IFCSS 2nd Congress and interesting news in next few days.

In the reports, we will not repeat what CND has carried in last
few months about the IFCSS 2nd Congress. CND reports are NOT official

re-distributed by CND.

We would like to hear from you about what you want to know about
the 2nd Congress so CND can provide more informative news and reports.

Last Minute News: When I was just about to send out this news package,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CND learnt from IFCSS Conference Registration
Desk, two Xin Hua News Agency correspondents (PRC
official news agency, a.k.a. New China News Agency),
He dalong and Huang Yong, have formally registered as
news reporters to view the Congress.

Four Pieces of Short News about the Preparation of IFCSS 2nd Congress
====================================================================(55 lines)
1. Major Agenda of the Congress:

    1) Evaluate the performances of IFCSS and its headquarters and
       various Sun-committees since 1st Congress.
    2) Revise the Constitution of IFCSS.
    3) Discuss and make decisions on bills proposed by delegates.
    4) Elect new IFCSS President and Supervisory Committee members.

2. Delegats Are Now Registering with the Congress

The official delegate registration with the congress started this
morning, however, they are quite a few "early birds" who arrived here
yesterday even two days ago. Thay can't wait and come here to help IFCSS
people in the last minutes of the preparation for the Congress.
At this time of 6:40pm (EST), about 110 delegates from 65 schools have
registered, 300 delegates in total (formal delegates and visiting delegates)
from 110 US schools are expected according to pre-registration data.
Besides those delegates from schools, there are also a few invited
guests from Chinese Stdent Union of W. Germany, FCSSC of Canada and other
organizations (including CND) who are not affiliated to IFCSS.

3. Preparation for 2nd Congress -- Hard Job Not Done Yet

The preparation committee for the 2nd Congress was formed July 4 and
the committee members met and discussed the "rules of discussion" and
the revision of IFCSS Constitution.
The host of 2nd Congress is Ohio State University, some 80 Chinese
students, from both mainland China and Taiwan, headed by Mr. Du Gong and
Liu Yi, have been working on every details of the conference affairs. They
arranged room and board for delegates, set-up conference rooms, made
signs and banners and also take of security matters. Now, they are busy
in picking up delegates at the airport and handling many many known or
unknown problems/troubles. Sincere and heartfelt thanks go to Chinese
students in the OSU, they have been working on the voluntary basis.

4. CND Members Attending the Congress

There are 11 CND members who will attend IFCSS 2nd Congressm, one of
them is "invited guest", one is "visiting guest" (he is a CND member in
France/Switerland), the rest of them are all elected delegates by their
schools.
So far, six of them have been here and we'll make a good use of this
unique chance to have a special CND internal meeting. Actually, most of
us had never seen each other and we simply knew each other on the network.
We feel that we can't wait for this day too.
By the way, four CND members attended FCSSC 2nd Congress as school
delegates in later June (FCSSC == Federation of Chinese Students and
Scholars in Canada). One CND member in Canada attended 1st FCSSC
Congress last year as school delegate.
In July, 1989, CND had only three members in the US, all of them
attended IFCSS 1st Congress as school delegates, what a big change!
However, one of the most important progresses of CND is, now, we are
sending news packages "live" from IFCSS conference site to our 7,000
CND readers around world.
