Up to now, the total donation from Chinese students and scholars in USA
has overpassed $70,000 in this summary. In fact, it should be more than
that, since I did not see any donation through PRC consulates reported on
computer networks. Also only very few individual donators told me the
amount they have donated directly to flooded region or Chinese Red Cross.

Update total: $71,148	(as of August 13, 1991 13:00 EST)

(Editor's note: concerned readers may contact Li Xiaowen at above e-address
		for an itemized donation list)

The U of M CSU and KuangHua Soccer Team would like to thank all of those
who came for the games, especially teams that come inspite of difficulties of
long distance and lack of substitutes.

We would also want to express our thanks to the refrees of the games for
their great work, especially Li JiHong, who came from Dayton to help out the
refree works.

We also thank the Consulate General of PRC in Chicago for their financial
help to this tournament.

There are also many people who helped us to get water, taped games, and
cheering for various teams, with them, the tournament could not possibly be as
much fun as it was.

Thank you all and keep it touch.

( Editor's Note: The following response to a CND report was
carried on the July, 1991, issue of the Chinese newsletter
<Outcry> (Na Han). The original was in Chinese and the
translation was CND's. Interested readers may refer to <Outcry>
   for the original content.

CND wish to point out that the original report about the
protest incident was factual and accurate. CND has decided to
release the names of the two delegates involved as follows:
They are Yang Wang of Georgia Tech (current IFCSS council
member) and Dongping Deng of Brookhaven National Lab. On
the other hand, the alleged conversation with a CND editor
described below was a severe misrepresentation.

It is CND's editorial policy that we do not take sides in
the issues we report. However, as a free medium, CND naturally
will report things that may not confirm to the majority's
views. CND is a completely independent organization and does
not bear any mandates from the IFCSS. We sincerely thank the
author for his concern about the well-beings of CND. )

Congresswoman Pelosi of California is well-respected among Chinese
students. Even thought her legislation for protection of Chinese students
was vetoed by Bush last year, it pressured the President into issuing an
executive order with broader protection for Chinese students. On the
issues of releasing political prisoners, improving China's human rights
situations, etc., she has shown more concern than most Chinese students
have done. During the IFCSS third Congress, she was invited as a honored
guest to address the opening ceremony. Her address won the loudest
applause among all the guest speakers. However, CND's report of the
Congress claimed that two delegates walked out of the conference during
Pelosi's speech to protest her stands on the issue of China's MFN status.

Soon after CND's report was broadcasted, it was criticized by many
delegates as pure fabrication. The following was an approximate
transcription of a conversation between a delegate and CND editor Bo
Xiong:

Delegate (D): CND's report was complete nonsense. I was seated at the
back of the conference hall throughout the opening ceremony, but I never
saw anyone left in protest during Pelosi's address.

Bo Xiong (X): As far as I know, 5 delegates have planned the protest
beforehand, but 3 of them later had second thoughts, and the remaining
two left quietly so that most people didn't notice.

D: So the two who left really did not achieve the result they wanted, but
CND's report not only helped they achieve their goal, but also
dramatically enhanced the effect of their originally meaningless
activities.

X: ... ...

D: Furthermore, how did you know that they had planned it beforehand?

X: They had informed us beforehand because CND is a news organization.

D: That's strange. "World Journal" is also a news organization, why
their reporter was not informed beforehand? Also, no other news
organizations at the conference was informed, including the conference
newsletter.

X: ... ...

D: I think either that you are conjuring up rumors of a non-existing
event, or that you are collaborators from the same gang. CND's report
last year for the Second Congress had much distortion and fabrication.
CND's reports of the past year also have been severely biased, especially
on the MFN issue. CND is a network authorized by the IFCSS, and IFCSS's
stand on the MFN issue has been very clear. What exactly are you trying
to do?

X: We are doing objective reporting ... ...
