The Chinese students and scholars in France, Germany and the United Kingdom
are launching a telecommunication campaign to inform people in China of the
end of communist dictatorship in the Soviet Union. The campaign includes
sending fax, telex, and making telephone calls to Chinese universities,
industrial and commercial companies, local governments and particularly the
press (newspapers, television and radio stations). In view of next week's
National People's Congress, the campaign also aims to put new pressure on
the hard-line government headed by Li Peng to resign and to release all
political prisoners, to lift travel restrictions by issuing passports to all
citizens. It is understood that student organizations in Hong Kong will be
joining the campaign this week, making use of their mass media which is
widely known to (at least) southern parts of Chinese provinces. Chinese
embassies and consulates in different countries will receive copies of the
campaign documents which are being sent to China. It is expected that the
Chinese students and scholars in North America, Japan and Australia will
launch similar campaigns soon.

Subject: IFCSS NR3017: IFCSS Condenm the Killing of A Chinese Student

IFCSS HQ was greatly shocked by the news report that a Chinese student
Lin Lin was killed at Times Square, New York City. This incident was nothing
more than a cold blood murder. IFCSS strongly condemn this ruthless criminal
act. At the same time, IFCSS convey our deepest sympathy to Mr. Lin's wife
Duan Haimeng and his other family members.

Mr. Lin was an artist, came from Shanghai in 1985. First, he studied at
Rhoda Island School of Art and then at School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He
was only 34 years old. Mr. Lin was one among us. At work, he committed himself
in the pursuit of artistic purity and spiritual elevation. The 1989 democracy
movement and sebsequent massacre drew Mr. Lin away from his studio. After the
Goddess of Democracy in Tananmen Square was torn down by tanks, Mr. Lin, with
his friends, built a replica in New York to express the overseas Chinese
indignation and their unrelenting spirit in supporting the Democracy Movement
in China. He then organized an art work auction, raising funds for the
Democracy Movement. Mr. Lin was a very talent artist. On a huge canvas
against the background of Picasso Guernica, he made a large sized mural
painting, depicting China's status quo. While exhibited in New York, this art
work drew tremendous interest. It was also reported in Hong Kong magazines
and The Village Voice. Mr. Lin's talent was well recognized in his field. He
won a silver metal in the 1989 Harlem Arts Exhibition. Shortly after, in
another exhibition, the New York Times positively appraised his achievements.
In 1990, he had his first gallery exhibition held at Soho, New York.

IFCSS strongly urge law enforcement agency and prosecutors immediately
investigate this case and bring those who slaughtered Mr. Lin to justice.

Mr. Lin was murdered, he left his beloved career, his friends and most
important his warm family. His wife does not have a job and she is in the
saddest mood, to her, she almost lost everything. IFCSS hope you extend your
helping hand to her. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated.

     Please forward your contribution to:

The First New England Chinese Soccer Tournament (NECST) was successfully
held from Aug. 17 to 18 at U. of Mass. at Amherst. Totally 5 teams which
representing 9 universities jointed the Tournament. They are Union Team of
Boston Area (Boston U., Brandies U., Northeastern U., MIT and Harvard U.),
Team of Dartmouth College, Team of U. of Conn., Team of U., of Mass. at
Amherst and Team of Yale U. The tournament was spontaneously proposed by some
enthusiastic people, such as Mr. Hu Tiefeng of Yale, and organized and hosted
by CSSA\Umass at Amherst. Mr. Qian He of Umass took the position of chief
coordinator. The cost of tournament was shared mainly by each CSSA and player
of joining Universities. But IFCSS HQ gave some financial support for the
tournament and The China Democracy Fund at Umass timely gave CSSA\Umass $300
to support its "independence and autonomy" in holding those activities which
are good for CSS, like the tournament (CSSA\Umass is supported in finance by
its member fee, because the officer of Chinese consul at NY has stopped giving
any financial aid to CSSA\Umass' activities except the activity of
"celebration of National Day").

The tournament is very successful! The competition was very intense and the
black horse in this tournament is team of Dartmouth College: they got the
champion (see the details of matches in August 21's CND-US). However,
generally speaking, in tournament getting fun is first, competition is second.
Every one got fun by playing. At the ceremony, everyone's face appeared smile
and they made appointments each other to have next visiting play. Here, I
would like, on behalf of CSSA\Umass at Amherst, to express our thanks to all
other CSSAs of joined universities for their cooperation, to all coordinators,
to all players and their spouses, specifically to IFCSS HQ and CDF at Umass
for their financial support; of Umass, I would like to give my thanks to all
my partners in our CSSA, specially to Mr.Qian He for his great job of
coordination and his patience of some unfair complain, and to Mr. Guyang
Huang for his effort (he is in charge of the CDF at Umass) for our CSSA to
soft the financial problem. ... ...
