Key Republican senators Who Are in the Best Position to Help Us
===============================================================

                          Emergency!!!

Up to 9 a.m. this morning (Monday), S1216 has not been signed.
It appears that the White House has been so focused on the "Cable
TV Act" that it simply does not have time to deal with other
issues. The cable bill might be the first bill on which a
presidetial veto will be overriden, in which case President Bush
will suffer a heavy setback in his bid for reelection. As part of
his effort to lobby the Senater in order to sustain his veto,
President Bush met with a number of senators yesterday to ask for
help.

Two conclusions can drawn from the above-mentioned event.
First, this is the most uncertain moment for Bush and therefore the
best time to have senator send him a positive message; second,
those senators Bush have met with are those who are likely to tide
him over the crisis consequently are in the best position to help
us on S1216.

Our action: IFCSS strongly urges students in the home states
of these senators to secure the immediate support of your
professors, university presidents, and other American friends. If
they can ask the senators to put in a good word for us, it will be
invaluable.

The overriding vote on the cable bill will be taken at 5 p.m.
this afternoon, so please act immediately!!!

Caution: The cable bill is a very popular bill, so avoid
giving the impression that we want to sacrifice it for our bill.
The best thing to do is not to mention the cable bill, but we know
why we are targeting these senators.

Attached here is the list of the senators Bush has met.
