Hi, dear netter,

I just wonder if the processing of lads' application is going on or it is
completely freezed until October, i.e., has any lad been approved recently
in any INS office? Is any visa allocated to lad lately?

Thank you for your response.

Heshun Chen.

Hi, our dear lads-l netters, this is Mi Mi Sr. I am asking for your
kindly help for one thing: would you please grant me the privilege
to use your precious signatures you signed for the petition letter
last year for the usage of fighting CBS report? I am now coordinating
the CBS Incident Committee which is fighting the biased CBS report.
We are collecting signatures from CSS. Last year you had shown the
strongest support ever in the netland CSS: by sending us 1535 signatures
to our petition letter. I just wonderful if I can use them again for
the cause of fighting CBS.

This message will be carried for one week on the lads-l.

Thanks,

Hi, netters, after my post this morning I got overwhelming responses
from you. Most of them just give me permission to go ahead, with some
ones just pointed out either I should circulate the letters, or
ask the permission again.

Since this net is supposed for lads related information only, I am
not going to take you bandwidth too much to discussion CBS matters.
You can subscribe to the fcbs-l for mor information.

First of all, CBS report is an insult to all of us Chinese. As a minority,
we have to work very hard to fight this wrong. Since I retired from this net,
I sort of getting together myself, to return to my own shell, and have a
nice private life. Because I had never been a public person, and was not
going to be one, if, my Mi Mi was not stranded in China and the fear of
not being able to see her in years caught me. It was with you that I learned
the plearsure to serve our CSS in large, but also the cost of doing so.

This time, several key netters dragged me into this fight against CBS,
including our lc-l rival. Well, felt being insulted by CBS, and the duty
to be a decent Chinese, I agreed to stand up to organize this campaign.
It started from 5/28, when the arrangment was made for the host machine
and first part of the personnel. Now, we have more 300 netters on fcbs-l
--f(ight)cbs-l(ist), and 48 committee members with 26 are assigned
positions. There had been protesting letters floating around on the net,
each one calls its own endorsment. The author got overwhelmed by the
incoming signatures, and some of them are silenced by this. You knew
when we had petition drive, I was in charge of the letter, and someone
helped me to improve it. Some one else were collecting the signatures.
So this time, I decide to use the same strategy. Because we are going
to send many letters to CBS, ABC, NYT, etc to voice our concerns, we
need different versions of the protesting letters. We need also to get
attention of some law makers, local organizations. We can but do not
want to flood your mailboxes with overwhelming letters, and ask your
endorsment separately. To be more efficient, I have assigned some writers
to concentrate on the letters ONLY, and someone to collect signatures
only. I know it is not right to ask your blanket endorsment even for
such a noble motivation, but with most of you, as long as you feel
appropriate, please give me the permission to do so. If you do not feel
right, just drop me a line and I will pick off your name. Volunteers
are hard to come by, especially at this time at an operation at
this scale. So if we do have a handful of volunteers, let us help
them as much as we can by reducing their workloads. In turn, we can spare
some volunteers to get more organized to serve you better, and, more
importantly, to fight CBS to the last ditch.

At fcbs-l, we have now an Editorial Board, which pumps out NR regularly.
All the discussions, developments and protesting letters are edited
in orderly manner. So your mailbox is not going to be flooded by postings,
but you are kept informed all the way along.

WE also have a group of writers, who pumps out protesting letters.

We also get Campaign maneger who takes charge of siganture collecting,
addresses collecting. It is the key point here: whenever we got an
target to send letters to, we will inform you what we are going to do,
and simply match the letter and the address, the signature list, and
we just hit the botton. It is the most efficient way of doing things.
Call it "mass production campaign". We must let people we are very, very
concerned with the CBS insulting, and we should.

We are also working on other fronts. There are some of them:

Legal action. We are going to locat direct victims, capable lawyers,
to bring a class action suit against CBS on behave of all the CSS.

Demonstrations, in front of CBS stations,

Interviews with other medias,

Boycut CBS,

We are going to contact with different organizations, to get their
support.

We are going to establish a watchdog organization so even if we lose
this time, we will let everyone know that they can not spit on us
and get away without any trouble.

Many, many things to be done at fcbs-l. We hope you will join us,
to show your support. We are not temporary visitors here anymore.
We are going to stay. We must defend ourselves. Defend our children,
and children to come. We are going to make our new homes sweet
homes. Without our collective effort, without our united strong
reaction torwards any bullshit dumping on us, we can do nothing.

Best,

Mi Mi

Hi, there, I am a lad and today I called the Immigration Card Facility to check myGC status. I was told that my GC was mailed to me Nov, 22,1993. Unfortunatly
my card was returned to the Immigration Card Facility by my local postoffice dueto unable to delivery. According to the ICF message, I need to fill out INS G731or INS Ga62 form to get my card back. Does anyone know where to get the
forms and where to file? Your help is very much appreciated.

Just look at your blue pages (gov't section in your telephone book),
find the INS information hotline, call that number, and follow the
instructions to record your request. They will send you the necessary
forms. Actually all the INS forms can be obtained this way. Pretty handy.

The rumor of " approval process for lads is fully stopped this year"
has prevailed in this area for a while. Please comfirm it.

dear Netters:

I don't think it's a good idea to use those signatures for the petition letter
last year automatically. It may violate some people's privacy and be against
some people's willings. It has been a long time since the petition letter was
signed last year. Some people have left the net. Some have different opinions
regarding the CBS report. And maybe they have forgot if their signatures were
on last year's petition letter.

I myself didn't watch the CBS news that night. I heard about the report from
this net. Then I got the report transcript from e-mail. After I read the report
carefully, I didn't get the feeling that it's so terrible as some people have
claimed. It's only a news report. Its content is true to some extent. It didn't
imply that every ordinary Chinese is a potential spy. You can say that your
neighbor, an ordinary white American is a potential killer. He may be, who
knows? And most Americans won't think you are biased when they hear that.

Multiculturalism is promoted here in America. It's nice, but it's difficult
to reach the goal. We have to recognize some practical problems. One of them
is: when a person says something unfriendly about some other people, if those
people are of the same race as him, it's fine; if those people are from a
different race, he will be definitely labeled as a racist. In many cases,
racism may have become a scapegoat. Of course, in CBS incident, Connie Chung
happened to report the news, but she is working for a white-dominated agency,
so she became the symbol of this agency and was labeled as a racist, though
she is also a Chinese, same as you and me.

Maybe some people didn't hear the report and even didn't read the transcript,
either. They just heard about that from this net, and some of them jumped to
conclusions. I recommend that the report transcript be posted with the petition
letter, so many people can have a better knowledge about the report before they
decide if they will sign the letter.

Did Connie Chung say that "every Chinese is a potential spy"? According to
the report transcript, it's "Some of them"? Can you deny the fact that "some
of them" are potential spies? Connie Chung is a famous Chinese-American.
I don't think she would be so stupid as to suggest that every Chinese be
a potential spy. Would that imply she also be a potential spy?

Is there any way to confirm this piece of information? Thank you very much.

Dear Netter:

The following message might be helpful for somebody who has a lad in China.

My wife, who was in China, got her PR through CSPA. Here are the calender of the
related things:

July 1, 1993: I filed PR apploication under CSPA.

Augest, 1993: I went back to China and got married.

Oct. 1, 1993: My application was approved and I filed for her both under EB-3 (derived from CSPA) and FB-2.

Dec. 5, 1993: Her application is approved except that she had to wait for the visa number
.

Mar. 20, 1994: Guangzhou US consulate informed her to have an interview by April 15, 1994
.

April 15, 1994: I flied to Guangzhou. Both of my wife and I went to the US consulate. Her
application documents were examed again with the other evidences and she was informed to
get her visa the afternoon of the same day.

April 15, 1994, afternoon: The US consulate refused to issue her visa for the marriage da
te is later than my application date. (We COULD be not knowing each other when I filed)
I argued with them, indicating the Federal Register regarding this issue. They said: "The
re were other similar cases. We have rejected their applications." (Anybody whose family
encounted this kind of rejection may contact the US consulate in GZ to arrange another
interview.

April 16, 1994: We went to the US consulate again, bringing the Federal register with us.
The consulate said before we pulled out the register:"Dr. Lu, you are right. We are going
to issue your wife the visa. (to my wife) Have a good trip to the state."

April 22, 1194: We flied from Shanghai to San Fransisco and finished her registration in
the custom. Four days later, we take off from LA to Singapore to assume my first job in
the National Computer Board of Singapore.

This is all about the story. If you have any question, please email at weilu@iti.gov.sg.
My wife and I miss the Sates a lot. Thank you.

Dear Netters, since I called your consent to use the signatures for CBS
related use, I have received numerous replies. Most of them agreed with me,
but a few, did have different opinions. Since the composition of this net
is far different from the beginning, I do agree even the consesus from
the netters now does not represent the netters then. So, I apologize for
asking you such a question, and therefore, withdraw my original proposal.

Meanwhile, the signature collecting conducted at fcbs-l turned out to be
a success. We have now collected 820 signatures. And more are coming.
Our campaign manager has kept the original messages as proof of the
signatures, while he edits the short form of the signature files ready
to transmit.

We committee members are now carefully considering the next campaign step.
It is a huge coordinated work. Not only CSS, but also other enthinical
Chinese groups. Wherever we go, we know we have your support behind us.

If you wish to support our signature campaign, please do the following:
1) send message to

            huangy@sluvca.slu.edu,

2) in the message body, please state the following:

I fully support CBS Incident Committee's campaign.

3) then stick to the format below to sign your signatures:

Your wife luckily got her visa number before it was frozen. some INS office
requested enough visa number in anticipation, then process the applicantions
thereafter. As for most of INS local offices and state department visa
division, the processing is stopped, because no more application will be
accepted, no more visa number will be granted until next fiscal year, and the
approving is actually frozen for lack of visa number. Your wife's example is
actually retrospective processing.

I do not the committee is working what now. The CBS reply is very clear
that they will not even apologize. I do not think anymore letterwriting
campaign will succeed. What we want to wage next is a media campagn to
attack CBS. What we need is publicity. I saw the report of the incident on
Taiwan newspaper and heard it reported on world journal. It is fairly
widely publicized in Chinese circle. What we want to do is to expose it to
American media. We need all the Chinese American organizations to call
boycot of CBS publicly and get as much as publicity as possible.
Demonstratin in front of CBS is not bad. I hope it will generate at least
some local TV news coverage. How is the preparation of the legal battle
going. Without class action law suit, I do not think we stand any chance
of winning. I hope the committee carefully thought out the strategy and
notify us what they are doing and plan to do. They may want to separate
several teams to work on organizing demonstration, settup fund to prepare
law suit and actually find people to prepare for the law suit. What they
mostly need is a public relation team. The public relation team is
constantly in touch with all the possible American media and give the May
19, CBS incident as much publicity as possible. What we want to portrait
is a CBS tabloid style news report which give an impression that every
Chinese is a potential spy. They may deny it, most of us have got this
impression after viewing the news. This is not a coincident. CBS has to
pay this. Ahead us is a long and maybe costly battle. If we buddle
together, and contribute, we will get the victory whether it is apology or
financial settlement. In general I want to see the committee working on
publicity and legal action. The major battle will be fought first in the
media campaign then in the courtroom.

Thank you.

What a clear sense! I'll suggest the FCBS commitee have an efficient focus
on this.

What is the motive behind the CBS report? I don't think they did it
because of their racism against all chinese. More likely, they are just
trying to find a way to boost the rating of CBS evening news. After all
the rating of CBS evening news has been in doldrum for quite a while.
Out of desperation, they are resorting to this kind of tabloid news to
stir public interest in their program. I think the CBS mentality now is
just to get over with this because they know the news of this quality is
not good journalism, to say the least. But they certainly don't want to
make a public apology because that will badly hurt their rating, which
is their bottom line, and which is reason the whole thing started in the
first place. It is also not likely that we can win a legal battle.

So what should be our goal? It is the public relations.

What happened in Tianmen gave us a huge image boost in US. Now five years
later, that image have long faded. In that regard, we have no one to blame
but ourselves. Except when lobbying congress for CSPA, we never get united
and become a political force. Four years ago, would CBS air a report like
this? No. But that was then, this is now. This should be a wakeup call for
all of us. And this should be a common ground for all the chinese in the US.
We should take this opportunity to do whatever we can to change the
stereotype imposed on us, to improve our relations with the general public
in US, to become political force to be reckoned with. If we have a good
image in the American public, no right-minded person will take a report
like Connie Chung's seriously. We should be very clear about what we can
achieve and what we want to achieve.

AY

So, what's your point?
Get to Action. There is no free lunch, even a tiny piece of justice, you have to
fight for it, if you want to deserve any! Get real!

Absolutely not true!!! Do you know the Russian spy Ames issue was much
more widely known in the US? Do you know that none of those countries are
communist rule? Do you know that "communist" is still considered as
threat to U.S. national security?

Don't mix the blame to CCP as the blaming of Chinese Americans. They are
totally different! I myself watched the CBS report, and apparently picked
the core of the report is aimed at Chinese government's practice, not every
Chinese in the US. And the emphasis is given to U.S. national security.
I myself knew that the report was a fact, no matter it has negative impact
or not. U.S. ordinary people are not naive enough that suddenly treat
Chinese very differently as all spies.

I myself was summoned to Bureau of Security before I came to US. And they
tried to ask me to "help" them in the future. Of course, I don't want to
do anything for them, and they didn't follow up either. But that is the
CCP's practice on using ordinary people. I cannot deny the CCP policy. In
this sense, I think CBS just discovered this and exposed it.

Chinese are not considered as "minority" (protected class) in US in
terms of job opportunities. This is not because Chinese did not fight
for their own rights in this country but because that the percentage of
Chinese receiving higher education and good jobs are no less than
average, so no need to be protected.

Consider that black people do have gained many opportunities after the
human right movement, but still the current situation of black population
is still far from ideal. Count how many percent of Black are professionals?
Look at how many percent of Chinese are professionals in US. The fact that
media are very careful for reporting Black due to some fear, doesn't mean
that Blacks have got better position in this society than our Chinese.

Immigrate (or visit/study) in U.S. is not considered as a right, but a
benefit you receive from this country. Do you want to fight for a right
to reside permanently in U.S.? No way. (CSPA is also considered as a
benefit rather than a right. If in the congress, you claims that you should
have rights to stay in US 'cause 6.4, would congress support such a move?)
Be specific. What we are fighting for at this moment is NOT the right to stay h
ere, but a right not being racially intimadated, all right?ers fighting
for American interests, therefore won't be welcome anyway. All men born
equal? Too ideal, too naive to apply on foreigners in US. You don't
have many rights of US citizens. That's the reality. No matter how unhappy,
you must accept it. You know that when you talk about 6.4 with your U.S.
colleagues, classmates, they would support you almost for sure, but what
about discussing the CBS spy issue with them, are they supportive?

Don't fight with your host country's national (security) interests, if you
don't support their policy, try understand their point. Want to have
another Civil Right Movement? Or a "culture revolution"? The
reactions to CBS issue shows that our mainlanders were really came from
the communist rule, borrowed some western words as our new slogans, but
still think and act the same way as what communist taught us.

Do you know about workers' unions? Should you join one once you are in
a job? Of course, this is one's personal choice. But employers do not
like union workers. They just don't like a united group to fight them.
They need cooperation in a more harmonic environment to best get jobs done.
Unite/fight is not always welcome. And you cannot always claims rights, but
you need to balance the rights and benefits.

> We must fight for our human rights in this democratic land.

Don't use beautiful words like this to apply to the spy issue, they are
totally different stories. The report itself is really not an issue
of discrimination. It's ridiculous to use those words for this issue.

Do not shout slogans!

Some netters are unable to hear different opinions. When somebody wrote
something not-against-CBS, they asked, "how much CBS pay you?" They don't
know how to listen, and to react to the point. They know how to attack
each other.

Planeloads of Chinese arrive US legally everyday is a correct statement.
"hundreds" are not a small number for stealing U.S.... Remember the hundreds
are only the number of spies exposed, many others are still active.

If the IFCSS/Li X.L. letters were brought to the news, it would be a quite
boring piece for most viewers. The network of course want to bring more
generally interested news to the viewers.

Again, why do you take the blame to CCP as to Chinese community in US?

Do you realize: ?

You guys over-react on this issue, are actually damaging the image of
the whole Chinese community as a whole. In general public's eyes, you guys
are unreasonable, and mad people. From their heart, they will try to get
away from you. Is that what to really want?

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
What is the motive behind the CBS report?

Subject: Renewal of My EAC at NYC INS
X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0a -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas
X-Comment: Late-Arrival-DependentS-List

Dear Netters:

I went to New York City INS office today to apply for extension of my
employment authorization. Because I haven't received anything from NYC INS
since I filed my application last August, the only proof I have is my
employment authorization card they issued me last year. After an officer
accepted my application, he asked me to go to another office to get some
proof that my application is pending. So I did, and had a quarrel with a
lady. She asked me to show my interview letter. I explained my situation
and told her that I even didn't have a receipt notice. She insisted that
she couldn't give me anything without my interview letter. She was very
rude and didn't want to listen to me at all. I got very angry and told her
that if I couldn't get my new EAC I would complain to her supervisor.
Then I went back to the first office. After he heard my story, he made
a call and talked over the phone for a long time. He told me after the
call that he would renew my work permission and wrote down a new number
which was different from the A-number on my current EAC. I asked him
about the number, he told me that it's the alien registration number
they will give me when I have an interview. And he told me that the INS
is working on a schedule to interview CSPAs from October 1994 (I guess
as soon as visa numbers are available).

So it seems that in New York City we have to wait until as early as
October to get an interview. And the situation should be the same in
most areas.

Federal Register can be accessed by gopher, not ftp or telnet. The command
line should be: "gopher gopher.counterpoint.com". Then select "2. U.S. Federal
Register", then select options 2 to 4 to search the public law. If you select
"4. Yearly Quarters" and select 93Q3, use search by keyword and enter keyword
"china and nationals", you will find the CSPA rules. The default logical
operation of keyword is "or", so use "and" to connect key words will minimize
your searching scope.

I have tried to use different keywords to search the law about CSPA
beneficers' elegibility to work in Federal government, but I find nothing till
now. Because in one public law, it contains many topics. Without knowing the
key work, searching is difficult. Although I have not find the item about the
work elegibility in federal job, but I find a lot of law concerning the import
and export trade with China. If you find the item about work elegibility,
please post your keywords or type "s" to download the item and then post it to
the lads-net.

Subject: Chinese students can work in government?
X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0a -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas

Hi there!

Did anybody find or locate the new federal law which allows Chinese
students covered by CSPA to work in US federal government?

If somebody found it, could you please send me a copy or tell me the location
so I may ftp it myself. Anyway, what's the law's number?

Thanks.

Hi, all,
As we have noticed, LADSnet is pretty quiet as the LAD problems
and processing are coming to an end. Since I have already left Rice,
my control over this machine (spike.rice.edu) can be terminated at any
time. My guess is that this list can still be running on the machine for
several months (since the administrators there may never notice, but
they could upgrade the machine and unintentionally destroy the list).
When the list is gone, I have no intention of creating another
one, just because there is probably no such need. People who are interested
in LAD problems can still post to CCNL (which is originally created for
lobby CSPA). It is possible for me to move the list to ifcss.org, but
I doubt that this is worth the effort (not much activities on the list,
can be considered as nearly finished :-).
	What do you'al think?

The "rumor" said the Public Law number is 103-503, but according to
the local library, the latest no published is still in 2xx. CND said
that P.L. 102-141 can be used (I forgot the date of the CND post, but
it goes back to 1991!), so I checked P.L. 102-141. It did not say
clearly the government can hire us, but maybe my poor English...
anyway, here it is: Do you think we can use it to convince our
potential employer? Thanks:

The original CSPA is Pub-Law 102-404, was enacted on Oct. 9, 1992. The
most recent Pub-Law related to CSPA is Pub-Law 103-123, which was enacted
on Oct. 28, 1993, Section 606 is the part you need.

You can go to your local law library, and find it without any problem.

How about expand it to a net on immigration/nonimmigration visa related topics?
And move it to ifcss. I guess there are still quite a lot persons interested
in that area.

In response to the recent discussion of the future of LADsnet, I think we should keep it alive if at all possible. Many people benefit from the discussion carried on over the past period and it did us a great service. It didn't outlived its usefulness as far as general immigration issues of Chinese students are concerned.

I agree with Mr. X. Liang in that it should expand to more general immigration-related issues (maybe including change of the name of this net). There is a wide audience for this, I am sure.

I believe move ladnet to ifcss.org might be a good solution. As a fighter
of lads-l, I do not want to see her sinking into the sea. To the contrary,
I would like to see her alive to serve more general public even all the lads
problems are solved. Many new comers are concerned with immigration related
matters. We may leave this forum for them for future use. Also, all the
back files maybe be of interest to new comers, since what the lads followed
is the standard procedure.

What do you think, everyone? I wish Jin Wu will propose this to CCIC. Our
lads-l people are moving into many directions. ICnet-l, is founded by one
of our lads-l netters, Gray Zhu. fcbs-l is also partially staffed by many
of our lads-l committee people. The lads help lads spirit is thriving
throughout the internet. We share a strong bound of community. Please
don't let lads-l go!

LADSnet has done a lot work for us. It should not just disappear. I think we should
do whatever possible to keep it alive. The above is a good idea.

Hi there!

I am thinking that the potential fish (lads) will probably suface around
next fiscal year begining from Oct. 1993 when more EB-3 visa becomes

OK. Due to popular demends, I will let LADnet live as long as it can.

Meanwhile, I would like to move the list off to ifcss.org. The list
will be renamed to more general names, I am thinking VISA-L. But this
may be too explicit. Anyone has better ideas on more artistic names?

Also, I need someone to stand up and take care of the list on ifcss.org,
ie, be listowner. I will provide necessary documentations on how to
do that, and will help in the initial phases (a couple of months).
You mainly need to add users and delete users.
You will be receiving bounced messages as primary owner and delete
invalid addresses.

Since I am pretty busy right now, this new listowner is really in
need. As soon as I hear from someone, I will start to move list off
to ifcss.org.

Since I am pretty busy right now, this new listowner is really in

I think visa-l is good, also gins-l, immig-l, since it is basically the
immigration matters. If we use something like community service, then the
scope will be broader, but our main purpose was immigration.

I can not offer help at this time, since I am tied up with fcbs-l stuff.
Wish someone will come up. Jun, if the list is kept open, then there might
not be many things to do, just to maintain the sign on/off messages.

How about CSIN-L: "Chinese Students Immigration and Naturalization List". Not overly explicit but suffuciently accurate for the purpose of the list.

Hi, Dear Fellows:

I present this message to the net to get some advice from you.

I came to the U.S. with J-1, and have gotten the green card under
the CSPA last October. My wife came to the U.S. in December, 1990, also
with a J-1 visa.

I changed my J-1 to H-1 under the executive order issued by
the President Bush in 1991 and got the two year waiver. At the same time
INS processed my wife's J-1 visa to H-4. Then her visa has been changed
from H-4 to H-1 two months later. The implication has been that we both
got the waiver.

She applied the green card as LAD last summer. Everything has been
processed very smoothly until today's interview with the INS examiner
officer in local INS.

The officer told us that my wife's case could not be approved
because she should have gotten the waiver of her two-years foreign residence
requirement first, and the granting of her H-4 and H-1 visa was a mistake.

There is a potential of denying for her case, and we will be in big
trouble if this happens.

We appreciate any helpful information and advice from you about such
kind of case.

Please offer your help to the net or send email to me at
        "wu@chem.rochester.edu"

        Thank you for your help.

My view is that ``CS'' or ``CSS'' in CSIN-L or CSSIN-L is not
necessary, since it is so obvious that the net, with any name, is for
CSS.
Similarly, ``IE'' in INIE-L is not necessary, sine the net,
with any name, is for IE.

Thus, both GOU and FANGL actually emphasized ``IN'' --- IN-L
--- ``Immigration & Naturalization List''.
I still feel VISA-L or INS-L would be better.
They are explicit, or overly explict, or too explict,
but there is nothing wrong, or nothing inconvenient, to be so,
as the net is for IE among CSS on VISA/INS related matters.
Why should we be afraid of being explicit? I see no reason.

The reason I said VISA-L, is because we might not only talk about
immigration visa. With China connected to Internet now, we can also
talk about student visa, visiting visa etc, and offer our tips if
any.

Immigration would represent both immigration and naturalization and

An out-of-status LAD got interview notice from Guangzhou Consulate! The person
came to the states with B-2 visa and lost status before his wife filed for GC
under CSPA on 7/1/93. The wife filed I-824 with eastern center for him in Oct.
after her GC was approved. They chose China as interview country. On 6/27,
they received the notice from Guangzhou US Consulate, which scheduled an
interview on 7/27/94, and asked a health exam done at least one week before
the interview. Just FYI.

By the way, any people who experienced please give advice for preparing such
an interview.

Announcing the Most Dramatic Technological Advance in Home Telephone
Equipment in the Past Half Century
(at a whopping 50% off the regular price)

No More Annoying Telephone Calls

Never Again Be Frustrated Because You Pick Up the Phone Just After
the Caller Hangs Up

You will know the telephone number and name (if the service available
in your area) of everyone who lets your phone ring even once --
even if he hangs up before you answer!

Do you really prefer not to be bothered by a phone call just now,
but you are afraid NOT to pick up the phone lest it be that
important call you have been waiting for? Now you CAN know
who is calling before you even pick up the phone!

Bothered by a crank caller? You will know his telephone number
with the press of a button. Then you can either call back and give him
a piece of your mind, or just report the number to the police.

Do you sometimes wonder who in the world it is that keeps calling
your teenager (or your spouse!!)? You will know immediately
by the press of a button.

All you need to do are: 1) subscribe to your local phone company's
caller ID service, which costs pennies a day; 2) call Scitec Inc.
at 1-800-550-8918 to obtain a caller ID (display) device
at 50% off the regular price.

Caller ID devices of less quality and lower memory capacity than
our ID-95 sell for from $69 to $79. The standard price for our
ID-95 (it is considered "HIGH-END") is $79 to $89.

However, we are offering it to you in this special promotion for
JUST $39.95.

That's 50% off the regular retail price, and it is even lower
than the wholesale costs many local stores pay for units that
are inferior to ours.

Our ID-95 records the last 95 calls you received: telephone number,
date/time of each call. And when service becomes available in your area,
our ID-95 will display the NAME of the person who is calling you --
even before you pick up the phone.

We cheerfully accept Visa/MasterCard. Or, if you prefer, you may pay
by person check.

This incredibly low price of $39.95 (plus Shipping & Handling) is good
through July 15.

Call 1-800-550-8918 to place your order NOW.

For more information, please call (217) 384-0400, our fax number
is (217) 384-5618.

PS: We are looking for salespeople to work for us. The potential monthly
income may be up to $8,000. Please call (217) 384-0400 if interested.

				Announcing the Unique
Bouncer ID-200 Call Screening and ID Device

Bouncer gives you complete control over incoming calls. It's like having
your own, 24-hour telephone secretary.

Store up to 200 phone numbers in Bouncer's directory, in any one of
5 priority levels. Calls assigned to the "Reject" group --
from an ex-romantic partner, for example, or that annoying salesman
who calls you every other week -- never even go through. The caller hears
nothing but a dial tone! Low priority calls can be sent directly to
the answering machine every time -- without even bothering you by making
the phone ring! Highest priority calls ring your phone till Bouncer is sure
you are not answering, then finally go to the answering machine to
make sure you do not miss them.

Having a dinner party? Set Bouncer on "Private" mode. Then your phone
will NEVER RING -- all calls will be forwarded automatically to the
answering machine -- EXCEPT for highest priority calls (e.g.,
baby-sitters of your guests).

When a phone number shows on the screen and you decide not to hear from
that caller again (perhaps the caller rang several different times,
but always hung up when you answered), a simple touch of a button sends
that number to the "Reject" group. Virtually eliminate annoyance calls
with Bouncer!

Does your computer have a modem? Bouncer can screen out certain people
from even accessing your computer -- or, conversely, Bouncer can permit
only designated callers to reach your computer -- all others are "bounced"!

Of course, Bouncer also acts as a standard caller ID device: it lets you
see who is calling before you even pick up your phone.

Our Bouncer ID-200 sells for $125. However, we are offering it to you
in this special promotion for JUST $89.95 (plus shipping & handling).

This special promotion price is good only through July 15.

For more information, please call (217) 384-0400, our fax number
is (217) 384-5618.

bnsun should make an apology to all the lads-l members and stop doing
this. Otherwise we should contact the network administrator at UIUC

Strictly speaking, it is unlawful. Because a significant funding of internet
comes from the federal goverment. By law, any resource such funded by the
federal goverment is not allowed for commercial usage.

But I agree with you. No matter what we call it, the point is, anyone using
internet for commercial purpose is abusing internet and harming the commercial
free nature of this valuable resource. It just can not be tolerated.

Anyone filed tax return as dual status and use 20(b) get kicked back first
and then told you filed wrong? I haven't got the letter from Philadelphia.
But when I checked with local Federal IRS office, I was told I owed them
money. They treat my filing as ordinary nonresident and totally ignored
the treaty, though I have all the documents there. Anyone who gets the
notice before me and knows the exact reason?

E. Fu

I received a letter from IRS inquiring me to state when I received the
green card. I gave them the date. But I don't know what's going to happen
later. R. Y. (I filed dual status too.)

Same thing happend to me. Anyone else had similar situation? I wonder
that it is a general action of IRS to dual-status tax payers or not?

Bnsun's behavior is not acceptable. He not only violated the law but
also violated the dignity of this network. He must apologize and
never do such thing again, otherwise we should take certain actions
to make he stop.

I got a letter from IRS asking the dates of my arrival at US and receiving PR.
Never heard from them ever since I replied.

I had a similar situation in which the IRS Philadelphia asked me to send
both a copy of my GC and SS#. I did so and hear nothing from then on.I hve
not got my return back yet. I wonder what's happening?

Hi friends,
Does anyone know the phone number of IFCSS Travel Service? Actually,
any Travel Agent which has good price? I'll be travelling from JFK, New York to
Hongkong, between 7/15 - 7/20. I need a round trip ticket. Can anybody
provide phone numbers to call to get a ticket(with a good price) ? I'll
appreciate it very much.

Thank you,
Yinghui
