About QuickStar Chinese Fax Pro V1.2 QuickStar Chinese Fax Pro V1.2 is a PC DOS program that will let you send FAX in Chinese text using your GB or BIG5 formatted Chinese files directly from your PC computer. QCFAX V1.2 now supports both Class 1 and Class 2 fax/modem. It will allow you to use either GB or BIG5 coded Chinese files to send Chinese fax. QCFAX is very small and very easy to use. More important, it tries to use the best Chinese font and best arrangements of page layout so the encoded fax file is as small as possible to guarantee that the fax transmission time is as short as possible and the quality of received fax has near laser print quality. QuickStar Chinese Fax Program is a shareware program written by Anthony Mai at Pennsylvania State University, USA. You may try it out for 30 days free. After the 30 days trial period, if you still want to use this program, you should register your copy of QCFAX with the author and pay a reasonable registration fee. You registration will encourage the author to write more good computer softwares for the community, and will entitle you to great discount if you are interested in any future QuickStar series Chinese or other softwares. Plus, by registration, you will have peace of mind in using the software. QuickStar Chinese Fax Program software package is contained in the zipped file QCFAX12.ZIP. You need to use one of those popular zip/unzip software to unzip it (Like use pkz204g.exe). After you unzip the file you should see the following files: qcfax.exe The main program qcfax.cfg qcfax configuration file qcfax.gb A Chinese GB file explaining qcfax qcfax.b5 Same as above but in Big5 codes readme.1st A English readme file tells you how to use qcfax. You should definitely read it first. qcfax.txt The file you are reading right now findcom.exe A Small program to help you to determine your Modem port. chkfont.exe A Small program for cclib.24 GB font file conversion getfont.exe A small program to convert 24 bits Big5 font file getfont2.exe A small program to convert 16 bits Big5 font file Files not included in the zipped file but you still need are: cclib.16 The 16x16 Chinese GB font file, same as NJSTAR's cclib.24 The 24x24 Chinese GB font file, same as NJSTAR's bclib.16 The 16x16 Chinese Big5 font file bclib.24 The 24x24 Chinese Big5 font file To get the above Chinese font files, you need to fetch them by using anonymous ftp: ftp.ifcss.org: /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.16 /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.24 /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc16f00.zip /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc24f00.zip ftp.cnd.org: /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.16 /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.24 /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc16f00.zip /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc24f00.zip cnd.org: /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.16 /pub/software/fonts/gb/misc/cclib.24 /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc16f00.zip /pub/software/fonts/big5/misc/kc24f00.zip Make sure that you set binary file transfer mode before transfering those files to your local computer, otherwise they will be distorted. You will need to convert the cclib.24 you get from ftp to the correct cclib.24 format. You can use the included program chkfont.exe for this conversion. On your PC, at the DOS prompt, just type: chkfont cclib.24 In a few minutes a new file called newcclib.24 is created. You can then make a back up copy of the old cclib.24. Delete the old cclib.24. And then rename the newcclib.24 to cclib.24 for QCFAX to use by typing in: rename newcclib.24 cclib.24 The cclib.16 do not need any conversion. The bclib.16 font file need to be converted from kc16f00.zip. And the bclib.24 font file need to be converted from kc24.f00.zip. First you can unzip kc16f00.zip and kc24f00.zip using PKZ204G.EXE or other unzip utility programs. You will get the following two files: kcchin16.f00 and kcchin24.f00 Then you may use the included font convertion utility programs getfont.exe and getfont2.exe to convert them to bclib.16 and bclib.24: getfont kcchin24.f00 bclib.24 getfont2 kcchin16.f00 bclib.16 Please read the readme.1st file for information of how to set up QCFAX before you use it for the first time. You will need to edit the file qcfax.cfg (it is a text file) to let QCFAX know informations like the modem port etc. The readme.1st tells you about the set up and usage of the QCFAX program.
