Hi:

Here are some suggestions:

[1] binhex50.bin is a binary file, you will need to use
binary mode to download to your powerbook, since you use
a modem, you need to consult your modem/communication
manual on how to transfer a file to your mac, and make
sure you set the MacBinary mode on on your powerbook,
This is a must, or when you double click on it,
it will ask you for a teachtext or something. If you
still have trouble, let me know what communication
software you use, in most software, there is a
menu for transfer mode, you simply set Binary
*AND* MacBinary.

if you are still out of luck, I would suggest
that you ask one of your campus computer
center staff for a copy of binhex 5.0, it is a
free program.

[2] you won't be able to run fetch, since you
do not have network connection, but use a modem
instead.

[3] all *.hqx are to be transferred in ascii mode,
that is, once you get binhex50 to work, you only
need to transfer all other mac files on ifcss.org
in ascii (or called text) mode.

Good luck!
