From John Delacour Poole, England July 1994 MacSlurp -- ToadNews -- rnMac ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FTP://ifcss.org/software/mac/networking/News_Offline The software in this directory consists of three programmes to be used in combination for collecting, unbatching, reading and replying to Usenet news articles off line. MacSlurp requires a SLIP or PPP connexion to a host running an NNTP server and a time-server on port 37. *********************************************************************** For detailed instructions of the set-up please download the software MacSlurp152.sea hqx and read the file Mac&OfflineNews *********************************************************************** MacSlurp 1.5.2 is a minor revision of version 1.5 to overcome a difficulty that some users were having. Tom Davies, the author, is not available and there have been several upgrades to ToadNews and rnMac since he wrote the file "MacSlurp 1.5 Docs" I have included this file for the sake of completeness but I have put it, together with other files that are not necessary for the proper set-up of MacSlurp for use with rnMac, in a folder named {Unneeded Files}. Please look at the contents of this folder but refer rather to my file "Mac&OfflineNews" for instructions on how to set up the MacSlurp/ToadNews/rnMac combination. In previous versions of Mac&OfflineNews I gave support to users of TheNews-UUPC, which is an alternative to rnMac for offline news reading, but improvements to rnMac over the past year have not only greatly simplified the set-up but added many exciting features. I have therefore decided, in the interests of clarity, to remove references to TheNews. This renders the file UUPC Settings redundant, since rnMac does not require this file and there is no longer any need to edit settings using ResEdit. Please report any difficulties in setting up or any errors in my instructions to me at the above address. Enjoy! John
