Not having to stop for a school bus WHEN the kids are obviously not going to cross the street or on multilane (divided) highways in either direction. (Because most bus drivers don't let them cross and I believe Baltimore has rules that say they must be dropped off on the side of the rode they live on. So why in the HELL should you have to stop. I am not trying to endanger kids lives here. Just trying to keep a bus from unnecessary tying up traffic)

Children behavior unpredictable. They may go out into the street.

While I too find buses holding up traffic annoying, as a father I think that I would rather not see existing laws regarding stopping for school buses get watered down.

The problem with that is that children are not automotons. In fact, they are even less predictable than adults. Neither the bus driver nor other drivers can tell for sure what a child might decide to do. When the children have all gotten off the bus and have moved safely away from the road, or are under the supervision of an adult curbside, then it is reasonable to make assumptions (and for the driver to turn off the flashing lights)."

On the other hand, what I WOULD like to see is a law requiring buses to stay stopped with the flashers off after making a dropoff/pickup so that stopped cars can pass it. That way, safety is served and so are there interests of motorists who don't want to be stuck behind a bus.

His point seams very valid and I want to think it over some before I modify my statement
