Whether you like it or not, Firebug, the government does have the right to
pass laws to protect people from themselves. It's set out in the Constitution.
But you really agree with me, since you advocate changing the law to make
it harder to obtain a driving license. Surely this amounts to protecting
people from themselves: someone who claims he's a safe driver might be
denied a license if he fails your new, harder test. He would thus be
protected from sharing his inadequate driving skills with other road users.
