I had a Fairfax County (Virginia) officer tailgating me recently. I had
seen him come up behind me, and new it was a cop, so I left the traffic
light and never exceeded 25 mph (on a 35 mph rode). He was so close to me
that I couldn't even see his lights. After about 200 yards, he blipped
the siren and pulled me over for "failure to yield." He was really nasty.
Fortunately, my wife was in the car with me, so I had a witness. When he
asked me for my license & registration, I asked him for his name and badge
number. He asked why, and I said because last time I checked, tailgating
was illegal, SIR, and I wished to file a complaint with his commander.
All of a sudden, he gave me back my L&R, told me I should yield to faster
traffic, and walked away.
