My point was, in case I didn't express it, that someone blasting on
their brakes as I come up from behind (or am following closely to
pass), does NOT make me want to quite 'tailgating'. It is fine if you
slow down in a passing zone such that I may do so, but flashing brake
lights, slowing down, etc. don't make me any happier about being
behind you.
My usual experience in these situations is that I am ready to pass
someone but there is oncoming traffic, so the individual in front, in
some amazing cerebral computation, figures he will slow down to let me
pass. However, the individual always slows down in no-passing zones (I
do NOT pass in these) and speeds back up in passing zones. I have
witnessed this behavior in my commute home for the past 8 years along
one specific road (probably 40 or more drivers). Go figure.
