Find the New York Native Plant Society -- or something with a
similar name. Almost all states have Native Plant societies,
and most of them propogate and sell native plants in a way that
does not harm the eco-system. In addition, they know how and
when to plant them, which ones are eaten by endangered species
(especially butterflies), and much more.

The California Native Plant Society has been a valuable resource
for me, and I've bought a lot of plants either from them or
from nurseries they know of, that nobody's ever heard of.
