Richard in Toledo posted that he was having problems with
cabbage loopers on collards.

The standard "organic" treatment for cabbage loopers,
Trichoplusia ni, on edible crops is the use of the Kurstaki
variant of BT. There is a good write-up on the use of BT
in "Common-Sense Pest Control" by Olkowski (See
B, Plant & Soil Pest references, in the FAQ at
http://metalab.unc.edu/rge ) Bottom line, BT works but
you need to really follow the directions on the label.

BT is authoriized for use on certified organic crops by the
OCIA and is available as Safer's "Catepillar Killer" in many
garden centers.
