Don't expect email from me every day - but I wanted to quickly follow
yesterday's with the information about conference hotels.

This year's News Division hospitality suite is very unique and different
from previous conferences. The Lone Star Palace is not actually within a
hotel. It is a private apartment which is managed by the Hyatt Regency, and
sits on top of a row of stores which face the Alamo. There is a private
entrance behind the storefronts with an elevator which goes only to the
suite. Here is a website to check it out:

http://www.lonestarpalace.com/tour/tour.html

As you can see, the view is historic and spectacular. I'm sure we will
spend many fun hours out on the deck, enjoying the Texas sky!

I have checked out the conference hotel listing on the SLA website - they
are all nice hotels. I will tell you the approximate distance from the
hospitality suite to each. If you have other questions concerning their
amenities, e-mail me directly, and I will try to answer your questions.

Using the sorting used on the SLA web page:

The two headquarters hotels are both Marriotts - both very close to the
convention center.
1. Marriott Rivercenter is the newer, taller, more expensive hotel where the
News Division suite was during the last SLA conference in San Antonio in
1991. It is about 3 blocks from the Lone Star Palace, and is accessible
either at street level or via the River Walk.
2. The Marriott Riverwalk hotel is about 4 blocks from the Lone Star Palace
- also accessible via the River Walk.
3. The Hilton Palacio Del Rio is across the street from the Convention
center and 2 blocks from the Lone Star Palace. Accessible from the River
Walk.
4. Hyatt Regency is only a half-block from the Lone Star Palace, on the
River Walk and about 2 blocks from the convention center.

5. La Quinta Inn - 4 blocks from Lone Star - 1 block from convention center.
Not on the River Walk.
6. The Menger Hotel is one block from the Lone Star Palace and one block
from the convention center.
7. The Westin Riverwalk is the newest hotel- probably about 4 blocks from
the Lone Star Palace and also about 4 blocks from the convention center.
Accessible from the River Walk.

To sort by proximity to the Lone Star Palace:
Hyatt Regency
Menger
Hilton
Marriott Rivercenter
Marriott Riverwalk
Westin Riverwalk
La Quinta

There are two other very nice and very close hotels which are not included
on the conference listing. (Warning: there are some liability issues with
not staying in a conference hotel)

The Ramada Emily Morgan is only one block from the Lone Star Palace - and 2
blocks from the Convention Center. It is not on the River Walk.

The Wyndham St. Anthony is about 2 blocks from the Lone Star Palace, and
maybe 4 blocks from the Convention Center.

These two and many others can be researched:

Hope this helps your planning.
