Subject: [newslib] Summary of Reprint Charges

I promised that I would post a summary of the responses that I received to my question about what papers charge for various reprint rights. It will be no surprise that we are all doing something different.

I found three things that all the respondents agreed on:

1. We all required that the item be reproduced in full.
2. We all required a notice that it was reprinted with our permission.
3. We all make adjustments for local charities or non-profits.

From there it get complicated.

The categories were:
1. Post to Web site
2. In a book (not textbook)
3. TV (in documentaries or other programs - not Network News exposure)
4. Paper reprints for business purposes. Some papers did not send responses in all categories. Some information I found on newspaper Web sites.
