Additional information on abortions (not for rate) is available on LINC VARIABLE #503 for Reported Abortions. ABORTIONS: Reported Abortions. Induced abortion is defined as the purposeful termination of a pregnancy. These data are for residents and include induced abortions only; they do not include spontaneous abortions (miscarriages). These calendar year figures are generated from induced abortion reports from abortion providers. The sum of the counties does not always equal data for the state since the state includes persons whose county of residence is unknown. Abortion rates are created by dividing abortions by the number of women ages 15-44 and multiplying by 1,000. This yields abortion rate per 1,000 women of childbearing age.
