In general, we should use this construction for quote attribution: "I don't know where to find this information," John Jones said. (We fix this order problem often on the copy desk.) HOWEVER, there is an exception. If the name of the person being quoted is followed by an appositive, then the order is reversed. Here is an example: "It is an embarrassment and it is a disappointment," said Harvey Schmitt, president of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.
