1997 Florida News Libraries Association Meeting

FNLA `97
October 29, 1997
Hello Fellow News Librarians:

Changes and challenges - be it with budgeting, digital imaging, pagination or job descriptions. Those two words just about sum up our year at the Orlando Sentinel Editorial Research Center. How about at your news library?

Please join us at the Sentinel for a day of learning, sharing and networking at the annual Florida News Libraries Association meeting on Friday, November 14, 1997.

Speakers include David Bralow, a partner at the law firm of Holland & Knight. Bralow has extensive experience on the Florida Public Records Act and recently wrote a chapter for the Florida Bar Reporter's Handbook on access to computerized public records. Debbie Wolfe, a researcher and newsroom coach from The St. Petersburg Times will then show us how to locate those public records online and on the Internet.

The afternoon session will change structure a bit with several small discussion groups going on at once as well as vendor and digital archiving demonstrations. One group will focus on marketing research services - what works and what doesn't. The other will discuss digital archiving. Learn from the veterans who have been there what kinds of workflow procedures to have in place and how to get the newsroom's cooperation. David Shedden, a researcher at The Poynter Institute, will lead a discussion on the recently held SLA-sponsored video-conference titled, "Giving Users What They Really Want/Need. "

The afternoon will conclude with a tour of CFN-13, the Sentinel and Time Warner's 24-hour regional news station.

This free one-day meeting from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. is open to all news librarians. Please circulate this invitation.

Thank You.
