Northern California Newspaper Librarians

Founded in 1993, Northern California Newspaper Librarians is an ad hoc group of professionals serving in print newsrooms from the Oregon border south to about Fresno. Our sole purpose is to arrange annual meetings where librarians--especially those working at small papers--can get together to discuss common problems and challenges in news library management. These meetings have proven to be very valuable, particularly for those unable to attend the national SLA convention. We've had excellent presentations on research and reference, photo archiving, electronic storage of text and images, clipping collections, budgeting, computer-assisted reporting, etc. So far, there have been four 1-1/2 day conferences held at different host newspapers.
Aug. 1993 Monterey County Herald
Aug. 1994 Santa Rosa Press Democrat
Sept. 1996 San Jose Mercury News
Aug. 1997 The Scaramento Bee

The 1998 conference is tenatively to be held at the Monterey Herald. Check back later for more details.
