TIRUNILAATTINGAL TUNDAM
This Divya shetram is a small shrine within the inner prakaram of Sri Ekambareswarar temple in Kanchipuram.
The moolavar is Nilaattingal Tundattan also called Chandra chooda Perumal in a standing posture. The Thayar is Nilaattingal Tundattaayar. The Theertham is Chandra pushkarini and the Vimanam Purushasookta Vimanam.
According to the sthala purana, Shiva tested Parvathi?s commitment in performing Tapas by setting fire to the mango tree under which she was seated. Parvathi prayed to her brother Lord Vishnu, who caused waves of nectar to cool down the scorching rays. Lord Vishnu as Vamana
continues to stay at this shetram at the request of Parvati. It is also believed that at the request of Lord Vishnu the moon adorning Shiva alleviated the discomfort of heat that emanated during the churning of the milky ocean. Hence the name, Nilaa-tingal tundattan.
