Dear Sri Sudarshan Swamin, Something in your beautiful post on Thirupavai caught my attention. In the second pasuram Andal says "paraman adi pAdi"; she is also going to follow up in the third pasuram with "uththaman pEr pAdi". In neither case did she say "paramanai pAdi" or "uththamanai pAdi". I have heard the latter being used in upanyasams to show that His nAma alone is sufficient to save us - that nAma sankeertanam is the highest form of bhakti. But, what does she mean by paraman adi pAdi - why sing only about His lotus feet? I invite scholars to comment. AdiyEn's feeble attempt at understanding this. It is truly impossible to sing about the Lord in His complete divya mangaLa rUpam. Singing about one part alone is therefore more than enough and probably only that much is possible. And if one had to select one part of His form, which one better than His lotus feet - the refuge of one and all, small or great. Even if one were to try to describe His entire form, it is at the feet that one would start - as shown by Thiruppanazhvar and Periyazhvar. Also, by showing that He has feet, it follows that He has a full divine form which corrects those who say He is formless, without qualities, etc. adiyEn madhurakavi dAsan TCA Venkatesan __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
