Dear srivaishnava perunthagaiyeer, " I see my krishNa in my front, the divine boy, charming by graces of budding youth from head to foot " . He came to bless us all in the New Year 2004. If I claim this in the New Year, perhaps you will immediately brand me as the biggest bluffer and started the New Year in right earnest excelling in the beginning itself. You will add, in this kaliyuga , how come you had the divine sight . Are you blessed specially so much? Since I can not claim " that much grace " from him, I have to admit these are not my words but the musings of sree NaaraayaNa battathiri of mElpattur who gave us the condensed bhaagavatham named sree NaaraayaNeeyam. Now that slokam: agrE pasyaami thEjO nibhidatharakalayaavalee lObhaneeyam peeyushaaplaavithO~ham thadhanu thadhudharE dhivyakaisOravEsham | thaaruNyaarambharamyam paramasukharasaasvaadha rOmaanchithaangai raaveetham naaradhaadhyairvilasadhupanishathsundhareemaNdalaischa || ---1st slOkam in 100th dhasakam naaraayaNeeyam meaning: before me I see a bluish radiance excelling the charm of a thick array of kalaya flowers. At its sight I feel the upsurge of bliss like one bathed in nectar [both within and without]. Next I see in the core of its brilliance the form of a divine boy charming by the graces of budding youth. He is encircled by sages like Naaradhaa athrill with ecstatic bliss and surrounded by a bevy of beauties who are none but the upanishadhs embodied. Then Battathiri goes on to describe all parts of that budding youthful krishNa from the face to foot. That is also called kEsAdhi kEsaadhi PaadhAntha varNanai and is one of the best set of slOkams praising my KrishNa. I could also sense there is a thought cropping up in your minds hey this fellow starts singing NaaraayaNeeyam pugazh instead of thiruppavai that too in maargazhi maadham and further in the srivaishNava lists . So I just compiled the paadhaadhi kEsa varNanai of sri aaNdaaL in thiruppaavai. As in the slOkam first the full thirumEni: Ongi ulagu aLandha uththaman - verse 3 [tall gigantic- thrivikraman] oozhi mudhalvan pOl uruvam- verse 4 [ small in size as a child in that aalilai] next is colour: karuththa mei [verse 4] mugil vaNNan - verse 11 maNi vaNNan [verses 16, 26 poovaip poo vaNNan [verse 24] now the body in parts: first the head: naaRRath thuzhaai mudi naaraayaNan - verse 10 next face: kadhir madhiyam pOl mugaththaan - verse 1 eyes: sengaN - verses 1,22 and 30 pangayak kaNNaan - verse 14 thingaLum aadhithyanum ezhunthaarpOl angaN - verse 22 thaamaraip poop pOlE sengan -verse 22 vai - mouth: kinkiNi vaai - verse 22 shoulders - thOL -paazhiyanthOL - verse 4 Odaadha thOL valiyan - verse 18 Eer iraNdu maal varaith thOL - verse 30 Arms - sankodu chakkaram Endhum thadak kai - verse 14 Chest - malar maarbu - verse 19 Abdomen - dhaama udharan -verse 5 [dhaamOdharan] Naabhi - navel - padhma naabhan - verse 4 Legs - sagadam kalakku azhaiyak kaal Ochchi - such powerful legs even as a child - verse 6 ponRach chagadam udhaiththa [kaal] - verse 24 feet - paadham - adi- sempoRkazhal adi - verse 18> poRRaamarai adi - verse 29 whether some thing is missing or having some kurai - blemishes - answer is a firm NO ! so my krishNa is kuRai onRum illaadha gOvindhan avan - verse 28. Are you getting the full paadhaadhi kEsa varNani as in 100th canto. Dhaasan Vasudevan M. G. PS: since many verses are already described and being described by bhaagavathaas, I refrain from giving detailed explanations - just to avoid mistake of repetition. Yahoo!
