SrI:
SrImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya nama:

Dearest all,

Let us continue to enjoy the acharya paramparai.
After Sriman Nathamuni, Sri Pundareekakshar [also
called as Uyyakkondaar], Sri Raamamisrar also called
as maNakkaal nambhi], Yamunamuni or Sri Alavandhaar,
comes Sri MahaapoorNar [Periya Nambhi] in our Acharya
parampara.

Swamy Desikan says in YathirAja Sapthathi sloka 9.

dAyA nighnam yatheendrasya dEsikam poorNamaasrayE |
yEna viswasrjO vishNO: apooryatha manOraTha: ||

I place myself at MahapoorNar (Periya Nambhi) whose
extreme daya enslaves him to itself (daya) (he
becoming an abject servant of Daya quality) who gave
us the Great Ramanuja, thereby making the hope of the
Prime creator realized.

[From asmadhAcharyan?s Tamil commentary of Swamy
Desikan?s YathirAja Sapthathi ? translated into
English by Sri CG Balaji Swami]

He was born in the year Hevilambi in 998 CE in the
month of Margazhi and in the constellation of Kettai
nakshatram at Srirangam. He had six disciples.

ParamaathmA has granted the body and its associated
characteristics to all Jivas, so that they could
perform Prapatti as a sure means of salvation to get
rid of all their sins committed from time immemorial
and to attain the bliss of His divine communion. The
Jivas will therefore have to choose Sriranganatha as
their sole saviour (para-tattvam) and should seek
refuge at His feet to elevate themselves spiritually.

Srivaishnava sampradayam through its great acharyas
like Sri Shatakopar, Sriman Nathamuni, Sri
Yamunacharya has preached the essence of tattvams so
as to enable every layman to exalt himself into the
divine abode. Many people ennobled themselves by
following the path of Prapatti and seeking refuge at
the feet of the divine couple. During this time,
atheists and adverse philosophers interpreted the
Vedic passages incorrectly and satsampradayam started
fading out. Pseudo philosophers (pashandi-s) began
flourishing while the divine glories, auspicious
attributes and divine form of the Lord began to get
masked.

Periya Perumal on seeing this decided to rectify this
immorality and decided that it was only Sri Ramanuja
who had the capacity to re-establish the supremacy of
Srivaishnava sampradayam. He therefore sent word
through His archaka to Periyanambi to be present in
His service immediately. Periyanambi, who reported
immediately, was ordained thus ?You shall preach all
the vedantha shastrartha-s (esoterics of vedanta)
to Ramanuja, that were elucidated by Alavandar and
prepare him as an instrument to embellish and fortify
our siddhantam?.

Periyanambi out of compassion decided that he would go
to Kanchipuram in person to meet Ramanuja and to
execute the inclination of the Lord, instead of
Ramanuja having to come to Arangam. He set out to
Kanchipuram on his mission and reached Madhurantakam
on the way.

Meanwhile, Thirukkkacchi Nambhi [Sri SailapoorNar] He
became a sishya of Sri YamunAcharyar (Sri Alavandhar)
along with other sishyas namely, Periya Nambhi (Sri
mahApoorNar), ThirukkOttiyoor Nambhi, Thirumalai
Nambhi, Thiruvaranga PerumAL Arayar and others.

Thirukkacchi Nambhi is the one who showed Ramaujar to
Alavandhar from afar at Kanchipuram Sri
VaradarajaperumAL temple. Ramanuja, after breaking up
from Yadavaprakasar, (when he was doing theertha
kaimkaryam at Varadaraja PerumAL Koil) approached
Thirukkaccchi nambhigaL and learnt tatvaartham from
him. Thirukkacchinambhi is the one who asked (on
request from RamanujA) Sri Varadaraja PerumAL and
obtained from Lord Varadaraja the famous ' Six Words '
and passed them on to RamanujA.

The six words are: (as told by Lord Varadarja Himself
to NambhigaL)

ahamEva param tattvam darSanam bhEdhamEva Cha |
dEhAvasAnE mukhthi: syAdanthimasmruthi varjanam |
mOkshOpAya prapatthisCha mahaapoorNa samAsraya: ||

1 ahamEva Parathvam. I- "Lord Narayana" is the
Paramatma.
2 dharsnam bhEda Eva cha. :Individual souls are
different from Paramatma.
3 upAyEshu prapatthisyAth- Prapatti (SaranAgathy-
Complete Surrender) is the means to attain mOksham.
4 antima smruthi varjanam- Last remembrance of the
Lord on the death bed is NOT necessary.
5 DhEhaavasaanE mukthisyAth- mOksham can be obtained
the moment one (prapannan) lays off the present mortal
body
6 PoorNaachaarya smaashrayam- MahApoorNar (Periya
Nambhi) is the AchAryan for RamanujA, under whom
RamanujA should take refuge.

Thus, Thirukkacchi became most important Sri Vaishnava
link for ALL OF US. Though he was born in Vaisya
kulam, he was greatly revered by YathirAjar.

Varadaraja Perumal of Kanchi had thus instructed
Ramanuja through Thirukachchinambi to seek refuge at
the feet of Periyanambi [read no.6 of the above para].

Ramanuja then set out to Arangam and reached
Madhurantakam on the way and met Sri Periya Nambhi.
Periyanambi then indoctrinated Ramanuja with the
mantrarthas and later at Thiruvarangam initiated him
fully into the esoterics of Vedanta.

In this way Periyanambi was replete with compassion
(Dayapurnar ? Full of Karunai) for Ramanuja. He
uplifted innumerable subjects of the Lord through
Udayavar, and shone as Dayapurnar, full of compassion
and mercy. Swamy Deshikan seeks refuge at the feet of
Periyanambi who, fulfilled the command of the Periya
Perumal (Sriranganatha) and attained the position of
bhagavat acharya. It is only due to this that he is
said to have attained ?purnatvam? (completeness).
