Subject: Azhagiyasingar brahmotsavam 2006
The immediate thought that comes to our mind when we
hear the word "Thiruvallikeni" is PARTHASARATHY. But
there is one another emperuman who enjoys an equal
status-quo Sri Azhagiya singar or Sri Narasimhar.
Eventhough there are five emperumans in this
divyashEtram (Parthasarathy, Azhagiya singar, Sri
Varadarajan, Sri Ramar and Sri Ranganathar)
Dwajasthambam is installed only for two emperumans,
Parthasarathy and Azhagiyasingar. Hence only these two
enjoy Brahmotsavam. "Chittirai" (April) month is for
Parthasarathy and "Ani" (July) is for Azhagiyasingar.
Recently the 10 day Brahmotsavam for the latter
concluded in a very grand and fitting manner. Some of
the divine moments have been captured in the following
folder of our "AstAna Sri vaishnava Photo website"
PBase.
Request you all to enjoy the Brahmotsavam from your
respective desktops/laptops by going through the below
album.
Any suggestions/feedback for improvement are definetly
welcome.

SrImathE Ramanujaya namah:
Dearest all,
In this verse, Amudhanaar enjoys Ramanuajcharyaâ??s
devotion to the grandson of Sriman Nathamuni, namely
Yamunacharyar also called as Alavandhaar. Ramanuja
held on to the lotus feet of Yamunacharya as the only
refuge.
Let us enjoy the 21st verse on EmperumAnArâ??s
reverence towards his praacharyan Sri Yamunaachaarya.
nithiyaip poziyum mukil_enRu neesar_tham
vaachalpaRRith
thuthikaR Rulakil thuvaLkinRi lEn inith thooyn^eRichEr
ethikat kiRaivan yamunaith thuRaivan iNaiyatiyaam
kathipeR Rutaiya iraamaa Nnuchanennaik kaaththananE.
21
21. Pristinely pure anushTaanaseelar- (one who
strictly adheres to saashthras and anushtanams), the
Chief of saints of Srivaishnavas is Sri Yamunacharyar-
Sri Alavandhaar. Emperumaanaar- Sri Ramanujacharya,
who is blessed to be Lotus Feet of Yamunacharyar,
saved me. Hence, I shall never ever praise the lowly
human beings who are full of ahamkara, mamakarams (I
and mine), saying "you are like the rainy cloud to
shower us with wealth", etc...
Though he was given half the kingdom, and was
addressed as â??Ala vandhaarâ?? [the one who came to
rule me]; having ruled the kingdom and enjoyed royal
life; still he forsake everything and took sanyaasam.
Not just that he was adhering to greatest and
strictest yatheeswararâ??s anushtAnam [in spite of the
past riyal comforts]; His jnAna bhakti vairAgyam were
indescribable. Taking refuge of His lotus feet,
EmperumAnAr was devoted to YamunAchArya fully. After
being saved by such greatest Ramanujacharya, would I
ever go and pray to some lowliest soul hereafter? I
never used to that even before. Why at all now? [Even
I do not take sanyaasam, I can still adhere to vaidika
anushtAnam and learn to have sampradaya jnAnam.
Nothing wrong with that. One need not be a sanyaasi]
[SrI Satakopan Swami adds:] In the Guru Paramparaa
section of his magnum opus, Swami Desikan paid tribute
to Alavandaar, his compositions and his line of
disciples. {Alavandaar had fifteen well known
disciples, who took refuge in him. He also blessed us
with the following illustrious works, which inspired
Swami Desikan: (1) Aagama Praamanyam (2) Purusha
Nirnayam (3-5) Siddhi Tryam containg Atma Siddhi,
Iswara Siddhi and Samvit Siddhi (6) Gitaartha
Sangraham (7) Stotra ratnam and (8) Cathu: Sloki on
Maha Lakshmi to remind us about Her unique role in
Prapatti}.
The verse begins with the words: Ennuyir
tantalitthavarai charanam pukki. Here Swami salutes
the line of Acharyas from Ramanuja, Periya Nambi,
Alavandaar, Manakkal Nambi, Uyyakkondar, Nada Muni,
Nammazhwar, Vishwaksenar, Maha Lakshmi and Sriman
Narayanan. He says the Acharyas like Alavandaar
protected him by revealing the knowledge that his
Atmaa was Seshan to the Lord.
In another verse in RTS exclusively devoted to
Alavandaar, Swami states that he is the Dasa of
Alavandaar and he will not therefore study any Sastras
that are not true to his teachings.
Neelavandhu Inru Vidhi vahayaal Ninaivu Onriya Naam
Meela Vandhu Innum Vinai Udambu Onri Vizhundu
Uzhalaathu
Aala Vandarena Venru Arul Thantu Vilangiya SIr
Aalavandaar adiyom padiyom ini ilvazhakkeh
In this long and tortuous Samsara, we have over aeons
wandered and finally due to the grace of the Lord have
attained discriminating knowledge. To avoid rebirth in
this world and attaining another body due to the
Karmas, we have taken refuge in Alavandaar and his
teachings. We will therefore not have lower births and
we have declared our servitude(Dasatvam) to
Alavandaar. He has conquered the opponents with ill
views and has come as it were to protect to us from
the misfortunes associated with the travails of
Samsaara. After thus becoming his Dasas, we will not
engage in the study of fruitless and imperfect [other]
Sastras anymore and be misled
EmperumAnAr ThiruvadigaLE SaraNam

Dear Renganatha bhakthas,
as Smt.Varadarajan Swamin says, its purely correct.
The temple
rules that is how to perform aradhana, etc. to Lord Sri
Renganathar
had been framed by Srimath RamanujAchArya. According
to that only
these rituals are carried out. These sequence wont be
changed
under any circumstances. One old incident has to be
remembered
which had taken place at SriRangam some years ago.
Onece a Vijayanagara king (Still he and his family
members statue
is present along the prakAram of Sri Rangam temple
near the steps
to Santhanu mandapam where Namperumal will enter
inside the mandapam
called "Karpoora PadiyEtra sEvai") and his family
members wanted
to have darshan of this karpoora padiyEtra sEvai of
namperumal
and came to Sri Rangam. But unfortunately, that sEvai
was completed
and Namperumal entered into the Santhanu Mandapam
before the royal
families arrived to the temple. They requested to
perform "Once More"
-"Ochettiki" in telugu- the sEvai. But the bhattars
declined that
and said " You are after all a King of small region
within this
globe, but HE is sarvalOka saranyan, sarvaratshkan,
amarar athipathi
KING OF KINGS, Raja of Rangam, HE wont do or repeat
again for you!!!"
Then it is said that, those royal families didnt
returned to their
kingdom and waited there within the temple itself and
died. This
prescription is written in SriRangam temple still now.
So, Namperumal wont abide for the sake of us. Its
always better
we should obey the rules whatever laid by our
poorvAchAryars.
Thanks for the bhakthas who have expressed the same
view like
adiyen.

I don't see
any reason why in the Ranganatha temple abroad they
should not dress

is not the
North Indian or South Indian custom, for He belongs to
the whole
universe. I wish that we change our attitude and make
Him accessible
in all of His different forms to all of the people who
love Him,
especially to those who do not know Him that well, but
yearn to get
close to Him. Lord Krishna allowed this to all Gopikas
and Lord
Ranganatha Himself accepted one of the Thayars in the
form of a
muslim princess. Why then in India, in the temples,
they are still
sidelining and preventing the white devotees from
having His dharsan

Temples in US
have to adjust to the needs of all Hindus and of those
others who
adore Him in His various forms such as Krishna, and
they should
become the center where people can learn more freely
about Him. I
suggest that we set up a place in front of every
temple where the
devotees can offer the prayers the way they like, of
course, in a
kind and gentle way. There is such a place in
Tirupathy where the
devotees can freely light up camphor and offer it to
Him, even though
it is about 100 meters away from His sanctum. This may
be to reduce
the crowding and allow free access to all those who
desire to light
up a lamp or camphor. Many temples in the northern
parts of India
have such places in front of the sanctum. Why not have
such a
separate place in front of the Lord where people can
freely offer
their aarhties? Temple authorities should consider
this and other
desires of the devotees, such as the one indicated in
the

anjoonair Tue Jul 25,
2006 12:36 pm (PST) The best
answer I got from this group. Thankyou
Mine was only a request on behalf of devotees. What is
the point of holding Gita Classes,
Ramayana Classses in our temples on Saturdays { Please
bear in mind I am talking about
Temples constructed overseas}
The committe goes to great lengths to advocate Hindu
Culture when the fact remains the
Bhattar in question does not even acknowledge Sree
Rama and Sree Krishna as avathars of
Perumal .
Children atleast need to see how Lord krishna looked
and How Sree Rama looked - Not
that we humans are capable of even describing HIM.
All mantra upacharanam is in Tamil only . So I trained
a few people to sing Annamacharya
Krithis. By the grace of God my next venture is to
train people to sing Ashatapadis and
Srinivasa Gadyam. Hope Perumal will look at me Kindly
eventhough the devotees are vey
appreciative .
A Temple belongs to everyone [ again Overseas } . I
would love every Hindu child to know
and appreciate the Hindu Dharma and this query was
only to show How eventhough our
thoughts are Good sometimes people in power abuse it .
To make it clear Our Temple Calander for years does
not mention "Sree Krishna Jayanthi "
Only the day is marked is" Sree Jayanthi " . Hopefully
it will be added from next year .
Please excuse any lapses
anjoo.

avidhya cannot be proved positive by inference.
In the argument to show that ajnana is a positive
entity the sAdhya, or
the thing to be proved is given as 'jnAna should be
preceded by a
substance which prevents it from appearing and which
is removable by
jnAna.' The hethu or reason for such an inference is
that the jnAna
shows what is not seen earlier. The example given is
that of light which
removes the darkness and shows the objects which were
not seen
before. Now, Ramanuja says that this inference is
faulty.The hethu viz.
showing something not previously seen, is sAdhana
vikala, absent in the
example because the light does not show an object
without the rise of
knowledge about the object. That is, when a pot , not
previously seen due
to darkness is made visible by the light, the
knowledge of the pot is
necessary to cognise it as such. Similarly indriyas
are also not capable
of showing the objects but only aid the knowledge that
does it.For
instance the light only helps the eye that helps the
knowledge by
removing the darkness that prevents perception. The
removal of that
alone which obscures, does not bring perception but it
is only the
showing of the object as such.
Brahman is jnAnamAthra, pure knowledge and cannot be
the abode of
avidhya. The ignorance of the shell in the
shell-silver illusion does
not reside in the shell but only in the perceiver. For
the same reason
the avidhya cannot conceal Brahman. And it cannot be
removed by jnAna
because it does not conceal Brahman. Only when the
ignorance conceals
the subject of knowledge as in the case of
shell-silver, it could be
sublated by that knowledge.
Brahman is not the knower as per advaita and hence it
could not be the
abode of avidhya which can exist only in the
knower.Avidhya cannot cover
brahman who is of the nature of knowledge as it can
cover only an object
that is seen and not the knowledge. Brahman is not the
subject of
knowledge either because He is not known and if
Brahman can be covered
by avidhya He ceases to be mere knowledge but becomes
a known subject.
Since avidhya does not conceals what can be known, as
in shell-silver,
it cannot be removed by knowledge. Lastly knowledge
cannot destroy an
existing thing like the positive avidhya.Further
avidhya being thus not
positive entity its definition need not exclude its
previous
non-existence. Thus positive avidhya is not proved
even by inference.

URGENT APPEAL TO ALL DEVOTEES
AND WELL WISHERS.
From: Trimbak Bharati, Chairman Fund raising Committee
We the Board of Trustees of Sri Ranganatha Temple,
sincerely request each one of you to seriously
consider giving a small interest free loan to your
temple, for a period of two (2) years.
As you have already noticed, various improvements in
the temple are continuing, by the grace of Sri
Ranganatha and Mahalaxmi. Some of the improvements
are:
1. Newly finished Rangamantapam Hall to celebrate
Weddings, Birthdays, Upnayanams, Concerts, Bhajans and
other Artistic Events.
2. CCTV security monitoring, 24/7.
3. Installation of Ceiling fans for comfort of larger
gatherings.
4. Completion of Dhwajastambham Alankar.
We have many more necessary improvements to be
undertaken, such as:
1. A home for priests to stay after long and rigorous
ceremonious day.
2. Security gate and fence, to reduce vandalism.
3. Necessary and needed roof and Gopuram maintenance
and repairs.
We urge you to come forward to fulfill these tasks by
promising funds in terms of Interest free repayable
loans. Once we receive the check, a promissory note
will be mailed to you from the Board of Trustees.
Please make checks payable
