SrI:
Dear Sriman Ramesh :
Thanks very much for your kind words . I am glad to know of the efforts that
you are taking regarding
the restoration of Sri Ramar Temple at your native village of Nallur .
This effort reminds me of other similar efforts by natives of villages like
Maangudi near Oppiliappan Koil ( Raamar Sannidhi) , Poundareekapuram
( Raajagopalar Sannidhi) , Kuricchi , PaathUr ( Lakshmi Nrusimhan) ,
MelkAvEri( Varadarajar) . Only thu the consolidation of the good will and
financial resources of the devotees linked to the Sthalam , ancient temples
have been restored and AarAdhanam started and maintained . It is an ardous
task
but can be done in phases and stages over extended periods of time .
The only way I can be of help is to announce such an effort
to the e-lists that I manage ( Oppiliappan , Saranagathi ,
Malolan and Raama Bhakthi) and hope that interseted devotees
settled well will respond to your appeal and join you . We all have
to keep in mind that the BhakthAs are recieving number of requests
and they respond based on their priorities and means . It is hard to
predict the extent of support .
NamO SrI Raaghavaaya ,
V,Sadagopan

> I am sending this personal mail seeking your help in the renovation of a
> Ramar Temple in my native place (which is Nallur Village, near Kollidam in
> Nagai district of Tamil Nadu)
>
> Some details about the Temple:
>
> Sri Sundara Kothandarama Perumal Temple is situated at Nallur Village,
> Arappallam Post, Sirkali Taluk, Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu.
>
> The Temple is around 350 years old. Lord Rama along with Lakshmana, Sita
> and Anjaneya are enshrined here. The Main (Moolavar) idols are carved out
> of stone while the utsava idols are made of panchaloka. Both the moolavar
> and utsava idols are a treat to the eyes. Apart from these, stone idols
> of Alwars are also installed in the temple.
>
> It is reliably learnt that till about 110 years ago, the Utsava Idol of
> Sri Thiurumangai Alwar (from Tiruvali/Tirunagari the birth place of the
> Alwar near Sirkali) made annual visits to the Nallur shrine. There used
> to be a divine procession with Lord Sri Rama adorning the Elephant Vahana
> and the Alwar adorning the Horse vahana.
>
> The temple is large with Garuda having a small shrine in the front. There
> is a large Mani Mantapam in the front where devotees gather during temple
> festivals; this mantapam also houses the Vahanas. After this there is the
> Maha Mantampam. This followed by an Artha Mantapam and then the Sanctum
> Sanctorum. There is a large passage around the Artha Mantapam and the
> Sanctum Sanctorum which is used for circumambulation (prathaskinam) of
> the Sanctum Sanctorum.
>
> There used to be a kitchen (for preparation of prasadam for the lord).
> There is also a temple well. The whole temple campus is enclosed by a
> compound wall; there is a Nandavanam (garden) adjoining the compound wall
> on the southern side.
>
> Present Condition:
>
> The temple is currently in ruins. The Vahana mantapam, the Maha Mantapam,
> kitchen, the temple well, the bell tower, the compound walls etc. are in
> very bad shape and need immediate attention. The Sanctum Sanctorum and
> the Artha Mantapam, though structurally intact, also need repair works.
>
> Renovation Plans:
>
> We plan to renovate the temple in phases. In the first phase the
> renovation of the Sanctum Sanctorum, the Artha, Maha and the Mani
> Mantapams etc would be taken up. A contractor recommended by the HR & CE
> has quoted more than Rs. 11 lakhs for this work. The Balalayam has been
> performed on 17th June 2007 and the wrok planned under phase 1 will
> commence in a weeks time.
>
> Once the above is completed we need to take up re-building of the Temple
> kitchen, repairing of the well, construction of a overhead tank,
> installation of a motor and pump along with the related plumbing work, do
> the electrical wiring and installation of lights and other equipment.
>
> Building of the Compound Walls, repairing/redoing the Vahanas,
> installation of a new dwajasthambam, repairs to the nandavanam etc will
> be taken up in the subsequent phase.
>
> The daily pooja (which had been suspended for more than 7 to 8 years) has
> been restored since Oct 2003. Once the renovation is completed the
> Archakas and Subordinate personnel needed for the day-to-day Worship at
> the temple will be instated. It is also proposed to set up a corpus fund,
> the interest from which can be used for regular maintenance work and for
> conduction daily poojas in the temple.
>
> We estimate that for all the above renovation work and to perform the
> Kumbabishekam we will need more than Rs. 25 Lakhs. A trust has been formed
