SrI:
Dear Lakshmi :
You are right about the need to be vigilant
to approaches by shady
operators raising funds and disappearing .
Accountability is
critical , when one undertakes Fund raising for Kaimkaryams .
When one's credibility is under cloud ,onecan forget about dealing
with these shady
characters . One has to be scrupulously honest
in handling funds entrusted for Bhagavath and
AchArya Kaimkaryams
and for that matter any public fund raising
.
The fool proof alternative is not giving and going
away but
periodic visits to the Dhivya Desams like we do in
the case
of ThirunAngUr Dhivya dEsams . One of the Trustees
of our
Trust registered at Erode visits these places that
are being
supported by thefunds from Aasthikas . You can also
ask for
a copy of the Trust and tell the fund raisers not
to mistake you
because you had bad experience with some
.

Swamin,
I fully agree with you that some
individuals/organisations can do much more to the cause than the official
bodies. But then, the credibility of the individual/Trust has to be established
beyond doubt.Because of my experience with Koodalur(Aduthurai) recently I
wish to caution the Bhagavathas.Mr. Bharati of koodalur had taken a lot of
initiative in the upkeep of Jagatrakshaga Perumal temple and informed me that
a Trust named SANKAMAPURI had been formed. He came to Chennai to collect
donations for the temple/Brahmotsavam and I handed over a cheque for
Rs.1000/- and at my instance my friend Mr. Rajesh gave a cheque for
Rs.500/-.He promised to send me receipts and prasadam but till date despite
several telephonic and E mail reminders I have not received the
receipts/prasadams.Does the TRUST really exist? What is the fool-proof
alternative for helping the deserving temples?

Dasan Varadarajan

over
Swamin,
Very often, we hear that Individuals as well as religious institutions,
donate liberally to well renowned Temples either in the form of cash or
ornaments. No doubt, their actions are welcome. It is for the God that they
do this. There are 84 Divyadesams in Tamilnadu and a few Abhimana sthalams.
Not all of them are rich or well endowed. Except a few which are under the
care of certain Institutions, others suffer for want of adequate facilities
and proper up keep. Such of those persons and institutions, who desire to
donate for temples should know that if a fraction of the offerings made to
rich and well endowed institutions is diverted to other needy Divyadesams,
they will also prosper. After all it is for Shriman Narayana whether you
spend it in Big and well endowed Divyadesams or otherwise. Our Mutts also
somehow are not thinking in these lines. Will the rich and affluent kindly
come to the rescue of needy Temples than showering their money on all well
patronised temples?
