Thank you for the message, It explains reason for
the day to day ritual people do.I would be really glad if you can specify me any
literature which speaks about Supreme Lord's ThirumaNN.I read some parts of Sri
Srinivasa Puranam where it speaks about the campher on Lord's
chin, likewise any literature which talks about his ThirumaNN.

Symbol "Thirumann": Why ?
Dear SrI Prem:
On our foreheads , the symbol of
ThirumaNN represents the two (sacred ) feet of the Lord and MahA
Lakshmi present in between as SrI ChoorNam.
On Lord's (archA Moorthy's)
forehead , You will see either Tilakam or ThirumaNN . Tilakam is for
alankAram (decoration ) for PerumAL .
If ThirumaNN is seen on the
archA Moorthys , it certainly does not represent Lord's feet on His own
forehead . It represents however the upward (Urdhva) aspect symbolizing
the upper supreme abode of His (SrI Vaikuntam ) . It is the
desirable goal for the bound chEthanams (Bhaddha Jeevans) . Here at SrI
Vaikuntam , He resides as SrIman NaarAyaNa ( Parama Padha
Naathan) with His divine consort , MahA Lakshmi (the Yellow or red SrI
ChoorNam ). SaasthrAs weigh however in favor of yellow SrI ChoorNam over
the red version .
There are a lot of PramANams for the wearing of
Hari Paadha AakAram on one's forehead ( AtharvaNa Vedam , Smruthis ,
PurANams , MahOpanishad , Kada Saakai vachanam/ "dhruthOrdhva PuNDram " ).
The adornment of the ThirumaNN increases our Daasathva Jn~Anam ( we are
servitors to the dhivya dampathis always ). The performance of Japam
,dhyAnam and Homam performed without adornment of Urdhva PuNDram will
not yield the desired phalans . Such performances will yield in anarTams.
This is backed up by BhOdhAyana , PaarAsarya SamhithA , SrI Naaradheeyam et
al .
