Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

While doing this wave of love series, another comparison thought wave came – and that is – concening the celebrated 3 marriages – seethaa kalyaaNam, rumiNee kalyaaNam, and aaNdaaL kalyaaNam.

In seethaa raama kalyaaNam

– raama, the young lad – less than 16 years as per his father dhasaratha - the bridegoom raama did not have any sort of information about his future wife seethaa - nothing he heard about her. Sage visvaamithra did not tell raama, that he is taking raama to the dhanur yagnam for the sake of raama's marriage only. So the young raama walked all the way from ayOdhyaa to sidhdhaasramam and from there to mithilaa. Raama did not meet seethaa earlier to the breaking of siva dhanus and hence no question of any love or any such thing. 'KEttaal alladhu paarththaal thaanE kaadhal varum' – hearing or seeing helps love to build upon. So no chance for raama is there for all that.

In rukmiNee kalyaaNam

kEttadhaal kaadhal vandhadhu – to both krishNa and rukiNee – both are adults and matured enough – so by hearing about each other both got into that love web – about each other's guNa visEsham, about the physical beauty etc - that is what we are dealing that.

So he rode the chariot and reached rukmiNee's place.

for there is an urgency – on the time factor.

In aaNdaal kalyaNam

she is young – groom is pretty old – ranganaathan – coming thru ages

being adored by that ancestors of raama, dhasaratha and then

raama, seethaa and raama during proposal of coronation,

later by raama till the end of raama's sojourn in this world, and then given to vibheeshaNa

during krishNa's period arjuna came to visit ranganaathan during his theertha yaathraa [?].

So being age-old, always in reclining pose – sayana kOlam

but in spite of the age being loved by young aaNdaal

kettadhaal vandha kaadhal – on that vata pathra saayee, the reclining ranganatha [many persons, including, people good at srivaishNava practices, pronounce this name or naamam as vada badra saayee which is wrong]

he is so old – so in reclining pose always

so no question of groom going places like raama who walked or krishNa who rode in chariot

so ordered the father in law to bring that young bride to his place srirangam – then married.

Again whether really married – slight doubt – for father in law aazhvaar says 'sengaN maal thaan koNdu pOnaan' – but later says 'naadu nagarum aRiya nalladhOr kaNNaalam seidhu thakkavaa kaippaRRum kolO'

so he really had the doubt whether aaNdaaL's marriage was done or not?

So which marriage is better to enjoy about – is it

1.      'raama seethaa' or

2.      'krishNa rukmiNee' or

3.      'rangaa aaNdaaL'

or all – each is a type – I request readers to pass a comment - For in my opinion --

if it is raama seethaa – all saasthra uktham – simple, neat and clean - except the bow breaking thrill, no more thrills – the praajapathya type – so, not much thrill, or interest?

For those thrill loving people – it may be the 'krishNa rukmiNee' love marriage, which is the raakshasa type – a sort of tik tik – pulsating - whether it will take place or sisupaala only will take her in marriage as per her brother's wish – or krishNa will come and snatch her away in the climax [perhaps the modern cinema people got clue from krishNa episodes].

for those soft and sober type, perhaps it may be the third – but the thrill portion is only in that 'dream' – regarding the detailed procedures – 'oh ippadiyum kanuvu kaaNa mudiyumaa' type marriage - in a dream – so regular and neat – even in a dream - of such a 'saasthra uktha' procedures – that 'vaaraNam aayiram' marriage.

Why such a thought process? When that braahmaNa said or conveyed the message to rukmiNee, how rukmiNee would have reacted or been thrilled with that news. It is because of that.

--As naaraayaNa theertha says – hey dear rukmiNee – your swamy – your lord or lover – krishNa – that bhuvana sundhara - reached here from dhvaarakaa – "thava swaamee vasudhEva apathyam chaarudharENa rathhEna dhaaruka saarathinaa dhvaaravathee nagaraath aayaathi" – that son of vasudhEva, your lord, has arrived here, from dhvaaravathee – dhvaaraka – in chariot with dhaarukan as driver.

Enjoy that thrill for some more time - being in the seat of rukmiNee - awaiting news from our lord - thru the aachaarya, the braahmaNa – for receiving his grace and union with him.

Dhasan

PS: sorry for the delay – because I was tied up in another important work.
