Dear Sri.Sadagopan Iyengar svamy,
Good write-up.
The first thing to strike my mind on reading about the Lord 'on the
run' was the famous 'pAsuram' from Peria-AzhwAr's "senniyOngu":
"pani kadaLiL paLLikOlla pazhagavittu Odi vandu
yen manakk-kadaLLiL vAzhavalla mAya manAla nambi!"
The AzhwAr pointedly sings about the Lord 'running' (Odi vandu),
hustling and scurrying to reserve a place or seat for Himself inside
the AzhwAr's heart (yen manakk-kadalil vAzhavalla)! The AzhwAr wants
us all to marvel at the Lord's haste in 'running away' from His
transcendental home high upon the celestial sea ("pani kadaLil"...
i.e. tirupArkadal) to look for a small berth inside the AzhwAr's
breast where he can stay happily holed up ever after!
This clearly shows one thing: That a true devotee of God is an
extreme rarity in this world ("su-durlabha:" as Krishna himself
attests to it in the Gita). So when God chances upon a rare soul such
as Peria-AzhwAr's, He 'runs' and hastens to occupy it lest it should
slip away and be lost to Him.
Regards,
dAsan,
Sudarshan
