Dear SrEvaishNavites, It is not a question of prayer or not . Our
pUrvAchAryAs used to spend their time reciting thirumandhiram/dhvayam
regularly. It is a way of life. That apart this bestows moral fortitude and
confidence reiterated.

I remember periya thiru mozhi pAsuram, in this regard.
"thunjum pOdhu azhai min, thuyar varil ninai min, thuyarilEr sollilum
nanRAm,
nanju dhAm kaNdEr nammudai vinaikku, nArAyaNA ennum nAmam" 1-1-10 periya
thiru mozhi.
The commentary by sri periya vAchAn piLLai runs as follows:
thunjum pOdhu azhai min= At the time of the end of this body's journey
spell out this thiru nAmam to ward off the fear of yama's deeds;

thuyar varil ninai min= Even otherwise, if misery befalls you spell out
this thiru nAmam;

thuyarilEr sollilum nanRAm= It is but natural that the misery and the end of
the journey are to be expected in this life's journey and hence, without
expecting anything recite this thiru-nAmAm for the sake of it.

The text of the vyAkyAnam runs as follows:" sarErathOdE irundhAl ivai ellAm
varugai, prAptham anROa" enRu ithai madhiyAdhE, ananya prayOjanarAy
iruppArkku
swayam prayOjanam"

Thus, the thiru mandhiram can be spelt out for the sake of spellingout-
swayam prayOjanam for ananya prayOjanargaL and for others as mentioned
hereabvoe.
dhAsan
