adiyEn's experience of visiting Jyoteeshkudi:
Reaching Jyoteeshkudi (A.Kodikkulam)
At around 10 AM, adiyEn completed darshan in tirumogoor and did one pradakshinam of mada veedhi, visited the pushkarini. When adiyEn enquired abt the whereabouts of kodikkulam temple at tirumogoor, they suggested that I visit narasingham temple and ask there, since the priests of narasingham temple do tiruvaradanam at kodikkulam also. So adiyEn went to narasingham. This place is on the other side of the main road in othakkadai (some 1 to
1.5 kms from othakkadai - see map in the first mail). There the sannidhi has been recently renovated and samprokshanam performed only in April. Wonderful sannidhi. Well maintained. Very clean. Nice Azhwar AcharyaL sannidhi. Narasighavalli thayar sannidhi. Narasingha perumal. Perumal is in the form of the whole hill. A carved temple. reminded adiyEn of singappperumal kovil. Very similar emperuman. Utsavar is different. here utsavar also has lion's face! adiyEn asked for information about kodikkulam after finishing darshan here. The priest said that they go to kodikkulam only once per day (at morning 8 AM). He also told me that he had performed tirumanjanam that day only. When asked darshan from outside would be possible, he told that there is only one grill gate in the temple and we can take darshan from outside. When asked about pillailokacharya "sannidhi" he said that there is no separate sannidhi for him. Acharyan is just near perumal. And that is the ONLY sannidhi there. adiyEn had imagined a little too much about the place. adiyEn gave some money to the priest and requested him to use it in Acharyan service.
Another priest was of narasingham temple also so helpful that he gave some prasadam in a packet and asked adiyEn to eat it in kodikkulam. He mentioned that water in kodikkulam is very sweet. ("kalkandu madhiri inikkum"). So adiyEn came out of the narasingham temple and waited for kodikkulam bus. A bus that goes to
A.Pudur came. I asked the conductor if I can go to kodikkulam in that bus. He said that I need to walk some distance. Just boarded the bus. They asked to alight at a place and showed a deserted walkway amidst dry thorny bushes and told to go in that path, following periyar's water-way. The place seemed so dry. But periyar water was flowing like anything. Just followed the periyar channel. Stopped in the middle to drink water and do madhyanikam. Again walked. When the waterway ended, there was a cement road to the right (a identification mark given by the priest).Took that path. Looked for the next identification mark, the water tank (which supplies water to that village). Made sure that adiyEn was in the right place. Walked along that cement road at the end of which was a pond full of lotuses. On the other side, a perumal sannidhi was visible. For all of adiyEn's expectations, the place was way too small. On the way to the temple was some devatantra temple. Went past it. And just near perumal temple is the temple of some village deity (malaichami). Went to the temple paid adiyEn;s obeisances there and took darshan of the Lord (Vedanarayana perumal) and Acharyan (Pillailokacharya). There are no utsava murthis. Only mulava murthis. The whole temple would cover an area of 10 feet by 15 feet. May be even lesser.
See photos in pbase to get a better idea. (Should be up by now, if not, it will be up in a day or two)
(To be continued)
