Continuing on Jyoteeshkudi:

When adiyEn was some 100 metres away from the Lord's sannidhi itself (on the other side of the pushkarini), the locals, who were there, advised me to leave the footwear there and walk to the temple bearfoot. I asked them why is that since the temple is so far away. They mentioned that there a very holy and great sage is present ("sAmi, anga oru sakthi vaindha munivar irukkar") They told that people are not supposed to walk there with footwear. adiyEn was amazed. adiyEn realised that only an "intellectual" fool like adiyEn has not realised the greatness of Swami Pillailokacharya. These humble people, though illiterates, have realised his greatness. It was so touching to think that these people respect our AchAryan so much. adiyEn cursed myself for adiyEn's ignorance and foolishness. But still, simply to make them talk, adiyEn asked what if somebody took it from here. They said that nobody would take anything. They said we can drop Gold there and come back and take it, no one would bother taking it. ("nee thangam kUda pottuttu pO sAmi, yArum edukka mAttAnga).

Took darshan of perumAL and AchAryan from outside the grill gate. The perumAL (Vedanarayana perumAL) resembles numberumAL and the AchAryan is in sitting posture near by. Madurai Prof.Arangarajan, details how they identified this place and this sannidhi as the tiruvarasu of our AchAryan. The localites mention that this place was full of "jyotir" tree (some kind of fluorescent tree). So this place could have been called "Jyoteeshkudi". Also, when the examined the thirumeni of the AchAryan, they found that dhoti was worn like a Brahmachari (Our Acharyan is a naishtika brahmachari). Also only one yagnopaveetham. So, this place is our AchAryan's tiruvarasu. Once upon a time, TirumOgur emperumAn used to come there for "kanu pAri vEttai" (ambu poduthal). So there existed a small mandapam for him. This mandapam is our AchAryan's sannidhi today.
