Sri:
Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:
1. Sriman Narayana is the prathama acharya in the guru
parampara and is refered to as such in Kooraththazhvan's
thaniyan. He is the same in all three forms, through
which He revealed the rahasya thrayam.
Recall that Azhvar uses the "kaNNan" nAmam to refer to
Narayana - "engum uLan kaNNan enra maganaik kAyndhu".
In Mumukshuppadi itself, the "gOvinda" nAma is used in
place of "nArAyaNa" nAma. So, in all forms and all
nAmas, it is Sriman Narayana who is refered to.
2. Periya Thirumudi Adaivu states that Pillai Lokacharyar
was born in the year 1205 CE. By most accounts, Vedanta
Desikan was born in the year 1268 CE. As you can see,
there is a difference of 63 years in age between them.
It is safe therefore to assume that Pillai Lokacharyar's
works preceded Desikan's works by several decades. There
are those who place Lokacharyar's period at a later time
- in my opinion, not because it is authenticated in any
work, but just because it suits better some of the
supposed interactions between these acharyas (please see
adiyEn's posts last month in this forum about these
acharyas).
3. Sri P.B. Annangaracharyar Swami was a giant of the
sampradhayam in the last century. He lived from 1889 or
1890 to 1983. He is author of countless works (I heard
somewhere that he is the author of the most number of
works in Tamil) and worked relentlessly throughout his
life to spread our pUrvAcharyas message. I will post a
brief history of Swami in the group soon. In the meantime
I have added his photo to the files section of this group.
