Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:
Srimath VaraVara Munaye Nama:

Upadesa Ratthinamalai - Post 5
========================

Immediately after the recitation of Acharya Thanian, viz

"Srisailesa daya patram, dhibhakthyadi gunarnavam,
yatindra pravanam vande, ramya jamatharam munim||

it is customary to study the introductory verse (thanian) before any probandam
is studies.
The thanian for URM was the work of Koil Kandadai Annan.

The theme contained in this stanza is marvelous in its approach.
Generally the thanian verse will glorify the author or will speak about the
work,
but in this verse Sri KKA spoke the greatness of those who indulge in
cherishing this
work URM, by seeking refuge in their lotus feet. Then the name of the author
and the name
of the work are mentioned.
Thiruvoimozi Pillai is direct Acharyan to Swami MM . He taught him all the
basics of
philosophy of Srivaishnavam expounded by Swami Nammalwar and elaborated by all
other Azhvars including Sri Andal and Madurakavi Azhvar. While specifying
details in URM,
Swami MM did not transgress the meanings taught to him and strictly followed
the path shown
by his Acharyan. The cause for this prabhandam is said to be the compassion of
MM for us.

The name of the work is URM, means the gems of teachings put as a garland.
