Dear SrivaishNava perunthagaiyeer,

"How you are presenting yourself" is a buzzword in the corporate world. Maybe
that presentation alone scores additional points, in comparison with the one
who has
*       good knowledge,
* better expertise in handling things,
*       managing the situation etc.

For that "presenting yourself" decoration of self, by way of
*       dress,
*       grooming the hair,
* adding some perfumery as the final touch
in that decoration etc are important points.

For presenting the material, which is to be sold by this well dressed person,
the material also should be
* neatly packed with materials which also expose a portion of the product
to catch the attention of the prospective customer,
* attractive eye catching colours on the carton
* and preferably presented with a laptop, using a well animated well
structured visuals with sound and light effects.

Dear bhakthaas, I am not going to talk on how to market a product in the sree
vishNava lists, but present a different story. How a man with a less
"presentable-ity" is being considered super, then and now also. By now you got.
Yes. I am going to talk about krishNa my favourite kuttik kaNNan.

While this person was born in this world of us, lot of people stood in the
queue and gave presents to his parents - things that could well be graded as
"rare of rarest things". See the list given by the mother by way of addressing
the child to make him sleep - yes - it is periyaazhvaar as mother yasOdhaa in
his maaNikkam katti padhigam 1-3 1-9 paasurams.

* brahma the creator of this world - gives a cradle - maaNikkam katti
vairam idai katti aaNip ponnaal seidha vaNNa siru thottil pEni unakku biraman
viduthanthaan - cradle is built of pure gold [aaNip pon] studded with red
rubies and diamonds set in between these rubies.
*
* kaapaali - eesan - siva who has skull as his garland - the lord
destroyerof the world gives - udaiyaar kana maNiyOdu oN madhuLam poo idai
viravik kOththa ezhil thezhginOdu viduthandhaan - a golden waist band - which
has pomegranate flower shaped gold stud mixed sounding bells and small knife to
show the valour of the person wearing it -ornament given to the deserving.
*
* indhiran - the king of dhEva lOkam gives - thaanum ezhil udaik kiNkiNi
thandhu uvanaai ninRaan - he also gave another sound making ornament to be
attached to the garment.
*
* amarargaL - the people who do not have death - the dhEvaas - article
listis big - pOththandha sangin valampuriyum sEvadik kiNkiNiyum angaich chari
vaLaiyum naaNum araith thodarum -
1. the conch having the right hand curvature - clockwise which is
considered very rarely occurring
2. the bell to be attached to the anklets,
3.      Bangles for the hand
4. Bangles or circular ornaments to be worn in the upper arm.
5. The waist belt - arai naaN kayiru - [which nowadays is almost absent
even among many brahmins - but saasthram says for a brahmin this is very
essential like the pooNool - without that you should not take bath]
6. araith thodar - another waist belt.

* vayichiraavaNan - vaishravanan - the dhEva or the controller of the
northern direction - the elder brother of raavanan - kubEran - the god of
wealth- ezhilaar thiru maarvarkku Erkum ivai enRu azhagiya aimpadaiyum aaramum
koNdu thozhudhu uvanaai ninRaan - aimpadai [5 padaith thaali] is an
ornamentwhich has 5 components - worn in the waist, aaram is haaram - a
necklace.
*
* varuNan - the king of water and water bearing surfaces like ocean -
vidu thandhaan - again a big list - Odhak kadalin oLi muththin aaramum saadhip
pavaLamum sandhach charivaLaiyum maa thakkavenRu - shining pearl necklace, good
quality coral necklace, sandal wood bangles for the arms, maa thakka enRu -
very very apt or suitable to the lord - he thought and gave.
*
* thiru mangai - the goddess of wealth - the consort in the nether world
- periya piraatti - kaanaar narum thuzhaai kai seidha kaNNiyum vaanaar ezhum
sOlai karpagaththin vaasigaiyum - she gave the thulasi garland made by her own
hand - and the flowers made as a head gear from that boon granting karpaga
tree.
*
* [dear bhakthaas - it is very clear now why that thulasi garland is so
much liked by the lord - see it is made by the dear wife - further she is also
having an important and enviable position - agalagillEn enRu alar mEl mangai
uRai maarbaa - she is always residing in the chest - if he is not seenwith the
garland sent by her - naturally she will question him in case it is absent in
the position it is destined to be - hey, what happened to the garland sent or
given by me - so he is adoring it and always likes wearing it].
*
* avaniyaaL - the mother earth - the second consort - pOnthu thandhaaL -
again a big list - kachchodu poRchurigai kaambu kanavaLai uchchi maNich chutti
oN thaaL niraip poo -
1. kachchu is the mEl uththareeyam [if it is referred to a male member],
2. a small gold sword inserted in this kachchu,
3. kaambu is another uththareeyam like cloth,
4. bangles for the upper arm,
5. uchi chutti - worn in the vagidu in the kudumi
[for the child this is one which adds beauty like anything when it dangles in
the forehead - the lalaatam. You all may ask - hey first of all what is vagidu
- for many just they push the hair to the back and put a slide orhair band - no
pinnal also - whereas saasthram says without a pinnal or mudichchu in the hair,
ladies should not move out of the house.
6. golden flower to be worn in the crown after the hair is done.

[a point on this kachchu - if it is for a lady then it is the cloth tied around
bosoms like a bra and not a bra. So this word has to be used with reference to
the context carefully]

* that kalai paagi - dhurga - one who has that kalaimaan - deer as her
vehicle - who is considered the sister of krishNa - she gave - mei
thimirunaanap podiyodu manjaLum seyya thadam kaNNukku anjanamum sindhooramum -
sister brings good smelling powder for bathing, along with turmeric, kaajal -
collerium for that big eyes, and chendhooram - red colour powder for the
thirumaN - naamam.

The list of articles presented when he was a child is so big.

Whether he used all these is a big question. For when the alankaaram the
decoration - that "presentable-ity" of my lord - my krishNa comes - this is
abig question. We will see that in the next post.

Dhasan
