Dear Bagavathas:

Today is adiyal's Acharyan U.Ve.V.T.Tirunarayana Iyengar's (TirunArAyanapuram)
99th tirunakshatram. Being the

centennial year it is adiyal's desire to devote atleast sometime everyday to
what Acharyan stood for.

Starting from today, adiyal plans to post translation of Alvandar's stothra
rathnam in English.

This is taken from an ancient book in Kannada the author's name for which is
not available.

Praying to Alwars, Emberumanar and Acharyas to make this humble attempt to be
carried out

without interruptions, adiyals starts with the thaniyan and the first slokam in
this posting.

A humble request to Bhagavathas - please correct any mistakes that may occur
due to

adiyal's poor translation ability ....

Thaniyan:

swadayanniha sarvesham thrayanthArtham sudurgraham

sthOthrayAmAsa yOgindra stham vandE yAmunAhvayam

sadurgraham - that which can not be easily understood, thrayanthartham -
vEdAnthArtham (thrayee- 3 vedas

, antha - their end , artham - vedanthartham) , iha - in this world , sarveshAm
- to everyone, swAdayan - telling

in a way that kindles their interest, sthOthrayAmAsa - composed in the form of
sthOthra, tham - such a ,

yAmunAhwayam - named yAmunAchArya , yOgIndra- sage, vandE - I humbly prostrate.

tAtparya: It is extremely difficult for ordinary people to learn the vedArthas
. In order that such ordinary people

develop a taste for and understand vedArtha, Sri YAmunachArya gifted us with
this SthOthra rathna. I pay

obeisance to such a philanthrophic sage.

namOachintyAdbhutha klishta jnana vairAgya rAshayE

nAthAya munayE agadha bhaghavad bhakthi sindhavE

achintya - beyond imagination, adhbhutha - amazing, aklishta - very easy

jnAna - knowledge about Paramatma, vairAgya - renounciation of worldly desires

rAshayE- mountain of, agAdha - deeper than imaginable, bhagavad bhakthi
sindhavE -

immersed in the ocean of devotion, munayE- one who is contantly thinking of
bhagavAn,

nAthaya - to srimannAthamuni , nama: - I prostrate

tatparyam : SriamannAthamuni was full of knowldege about ParamAthman and
vairagyam

towards worldly desires. Although his devotion was like a deep ocean whose
depth can

not be estimated by us, it was easy and amazing to understand it. He was
constantly

immersed in Bhagavad dhyAnam. I prostrate to such a great nathamuni.

Background: Srimannathamuni is the first among our achAryas and is the grand
father

of Sri Alavandar and lived in VeeranArAyanapuram (kattu mannArgudi sannidhi).

Just like Veda Vyasa categorized the vedas into four, SrimannAthamuni recovered

the lost dravida vedas by his great effort and categorized it as nalAyira divya

prabhandhams and gifted it to the people of this world to enjoy it.
