The Jagadrakshaka Perumal temple, in Thirukoodalur, near Kapisthalam, on the Thanjavur-Kumbakonam route, one of the Divyakshetrams, and hence a holy centre for Vaishnavites, is being renovated. The prakarams are ready and the reconstruction of the gopuram and shrines is being carried out. A month ago, when the authorities decided to cut parts of the jackfruit tree that was in the temple complex, for use in the renovation work, they found a natural formation in the shape of a big conch, about five feet in height and two feet wide in the middle, on the trunk. As the workers and devotees felt it was a divine phenomenon, the felling of branches was stopped. Turmeric paste was applied to mark the portion so that it would be clearly visible from the ground. ?
