Dear list,

<For academic purpose only>

In a previous post, I mentioned about high status the savitri mantra
enjoys in all the four vedas (brAhmaNa texts to be precise). In line
with the previous post -- the savitri mantra has a 'fierce sister'
called 'pratiloma gayatri'. The nature and application is givenin
anuloma kalpam affiliated with atharva veda (AV parishishta, 34th
adhyaya). Of course, the name anuloma kalpam is a euphemism.

Yama is supposed to have taught this mantra and mrtyu is the
presiding deity. The chandas is nischanna gayatri. She is supposed to
be red in color and also called brahmastra, as the application is
sure to bring destruction of the enemy. This mantra is basically the
well-known gayatri mantra but in reverse. Additional rules of svara
are also specified, as blind reversal will not work.
<method of reversal and svara rules omitted by me>

An effigy of enemy is made and pierced by a stake of khadira wood and
heated on khadira fire while chanting pratiloma gayatri. This should
not be chanted 11 times, as it would bring destruction of self
instead of enemy.

Regards,
KK
