Dear Sri Venkatesh and others, During her last visit to Denver, I had the opportunity to briefly chat with Dr. Vasudha Narayanan about Thirukoneri Dasi . It seems that her commentary is a rather unique one, because it provides great insights into the varying philosophical views and how these were interwined to form a more wholistic understanding vision of SriVaishnavam during the time that she had lived. >From what I can recall of my conversation with Dr. Vasudha, it appears that at the time of Sri Nanjeeyar and Koneri Dasi, the dividing lines between such concepts as nirhEtuka/sahEtuka kripa, thAyAr's role and Her own Divinity, prapatti as an upAyam and not being one, etc., were not so clearly defined as they are today. Indeed, Thirukoneri's Dasi's commentary is unique in that it revels in intertwining and pondering on these seeming paradoxes. Sadly, with the increased Brahminical emphasis that has taken place in the community over the past 200 -300 years, except among the stalwarts, Thirukoneri Dasi's work has been virtually forgotten. Smt. Vasudha had mentioned that she was going to send me a copy of a paper that she had put together on Thirukoneri Dasi's life, which included English translations of her commentaries. She has been travelling around the world a lot lately, however, so she may have forgotten about it. I will make an effort to contact her and see if I can procure a copy of this paper so that we can all learn more. adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Mohan elayavalli wrote: > Sri: > SrimathE Ramanujaya Namaha: > AzhwAr emperumAnAr jeeyar thiruvadigalE Saranam > > Dear group > > I recently got a book on thirvaymozhi commentary in English by Sri. > BSS Iyengar (sp?) from B'lore who mentiones that there is commentary > on TVM by one non-brahmin lady sishya of Sri Nanjeeyar (kOnEri > DAsAyi?) which explains all pasurams using the first pasuram > (uyarvara ..) as a basis.
