Dear Bhagavathas,
This is an appeal to help with the repair of the thiru-mada-p-paLLi
(temple kitchen) at Thiru SiRupuliyUr. This is a divyadEsam near
thanjAvUr. Recently, the temple kitchen's wall/ceiling broke down
rendering the kitchen unusable. Vedics has been requested to help
with the repair of the kitchen by Sri VeLukkudi KrishNan svAmi and
the local temple contacts. Vedics has undertaken this project.
Vedics India visited the site and the field report is that the
current situation its not safe to do any cooking over there; so now
PerumAL's prasadam is being prepared at bhattachar's house; the
madapaLLi requires a good amount of repair, and the initial estimate
of the repair cost is around 2 Lakhs ($4500 or so). Some photos
showing the current state of the madapaLLi can be found on
http://sirupuliyur.blogspot.com
Meantime, the utsavam for perumAL is coming up, and there is a
madapaLLi in neighboring sannidhi that can be used for cooking for
the coming utsavam; there is an issue in that water supply is not
good in this sannidhi, and in order to accommodate the large amount
of cooking needed to be done during utsavam, a new borewell has to be
erected, with a cost of around 25000 rupees ($550 or so).
Vedics has taken up this project, and intends to do the project in
stages ? the first stage is for constructing the bore well, for
which
our target is to raise $550 by June 15th. The second stage is to
raise $4500 for the madapaLLi repair, and the target time for a that
is August 15th.
Vedics currently has 2 other projects running in Sirupuliyur. There
is a monthly utsavam conducted at auspicious days (Ramanuja's star,
for example). On May 8th, Vedics will be inaugurating a structure
(concrete shed with electricity & water facilities) that was
constructed at the cost of around $1500 for the purpose of local
community gatherings & for children to study in the evenings. You can
see photos of this at http://vedicsdd.blogspot.com . Vedics is also
working on another project to provide books & notebooks to school
going children in this area.

Brief Sthala Purana:
This Kshetra finds mention in Garudapurana and Brahmandapurana. A
Squabble between Garuda and Adisesha to find who between them is of
greater importance to God became a big fight. God, as Balasayana
here, meditated and informed each of them, their important role. The
Garuda sannidhi is underground and the Adisesha sannidhi at a higher
level. As per the sthalapuranam Vyaghrapadamuni worshipped Lord Shiva
for moksha. Shiva directed the muni to worship Lord Vishnu as only He
can give moksha. He obtained as boon from Shiva, the legs and eyes of
tiger to travel faster to this place. He performed penance,
worshipped the Lord and attained Moksha here and hence the name
Sirupuliyur. The icon of Vyaghrapadar (Vyaghra - tiger) and Kanvamuni
is installed at the foot of the Lord. There are sannidhis for
Rajagopalan, Andal and Azhwars. The Sayana Perumal here is the
smallest of all the Divya Desa Sayana Perumals. Noting Tirumangai
azhwar looks askance at the small size, the Perumal asks the Azhwar
to find Him at Tirukkannamangai in a huge form.
This Kshethram is located about 3kms from Kollumangudi station on the
Mayavaram - Aranthangi rail route.
