srImathE rAmAnujAya namah dear srI sampath kumAr, welcome to the community of rAmAnuja devotees. > Narayana. To further purify myself I am learning the process of > performing Thiruaradhanam at my house. However, my question is since I > have not surrended to an acharya in a procedural sense and had > samasrayanam, am I allowed to perform thiruaradhanam? In my present > condition I am not sure when I would be able to go to India. Given that you have surrendered mentally to emperumAn and emperumAnAr, and you are in the process of learning thiruArAdhanam, my humble opinion is that there is nothing wrong in you performing thiruArAdhanam. After all, it is only due to His grace that you are learning thiruArAdhAnam (just as it is only due to His grace, that we all are associated with rAmAnuja and our AzhvArs and Himself), and are interested in it. Technically, thiruArAdhanam is one of samskArAs in the pancha samskAram (yAga samskAra). Obviously, when it is the right time, He will make sure that you get samAsrayaNam from an AchArya. A couple of suggestions - (i) Vedics has released thiruArAdhanam tapes that might help you in your learning process. Please see vedics.net for details. (ii) To get samAsrayaNam done, you do not need to go all the way to India! srI tridaNdi srIman nArAyaNa rAmAnuja chinna jIyar svAmi comes to the US almost every year to give solace and guidance to all rAmAnuja sampradAya devotees. Please visit chinnajeeyar.org. When he comes here next time, that may be an opportunity to get samAsrayaNam. AzhvAr emperumAnAr jIyar thiruvadigaLE saraNam, adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, varadhan
